1995 needs New Engine

Hello all, I have been hanging around and reading about the Aurora. I have learned many things about the car and have saved some time and money with the many posts that are here. My 1995 needs a new engine and I was wondering if the 1996-99 engines will work. The shop doing the job had one on the line but it was sold. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1995 needs New Engine

Rich, sorry to hear your mis-fortune. All I can say is hang in there. Once you get your RoRa back up and running you will appreciate the effort. The OLDS Aurora is a fine riding machine, however as you an see from this forum there can be many obstacles. Yes, you can put a 96 Rora engine into your 95. I just did this for a customer recently. He originally wanted another 95 engine in his, but I discourage him and talked him into a 96 with less miles. Good Luck.

Why stop there? Get the 300hp Cadillac N* and slap it in. Maybe some cams from CHRF and throw in a converter with a stall of 2500-2800 rpm. It'd be nice to see a 340 hp Aurora w/loose converter with traction control switched off! It would be a matter of time before you start breaking CV joints like guitar strings (both accompanied with the TWANG! noise). If the Honda guys can build lightweight Civics with ZC motors, we can build our Auroras with other engines in the family! By the way, anyone know of a reputable cam grinder willing to regrind cams?

Thanks Big Daddy, I'll give the shop a call today and let them know they can look for a 96. I purchased mine from a private seller who forgot to mention that it had a cracked block. Oh well buyer beware!

Re: 1995 needs New Engine

why re grind cams when you can swap the 4.6 cams over and practically the whole engine. I would do a 4.6 swap if i were you.

I was looking for a cam grinder because my engine is just fine, however when the time comes, my engine will be replaced by a 4.6.

You seem to be a fan of the Aurora. I have a 95 but it has the transmission problem of shifting hard into gear. I love the looks and ride of the car. What do you think of the 98 and 99 models. Is there much difference between these models and the 95/96? Thanks.

The 95's to 99's have same engine and everything else for that matter I believe. I too had my engine blow on me...I think its the bearings. I need to find an engine but where I live there aren't a whole lot of Aurora's. I have been searching for the same engine without luck now for about 5 weeks, will the 4.6 fit in the aurora without extras like replacing money parts to get it to fit or anything. If a 4.6 will work I can throw that into the search and possible get this car fixed. I am stuck with getting an old caviler to drive for the time being. PLEASE respond to this quickly because I plan to purchase this car for a beater until I get the rora fixed and don't want to if its not needed, but then again I would have something to drive for work and something to drive for play.

Let me know!!!

Where are you located? I have a 95 Aurora that has transmission problems. I might be persuaded to sell the engine.

I'm in Morgantown, West Virginia. If thats close then let me know how many miles are on it and what your asking. The going rate around here is $700. That was for one with 75k and one with 116k which were both sold before I could make arrangements to buy. If close enough for travel then cool...if it would have to be shipped then please try and find the cost of shipping out for me. If cost of engine and shipping are reasonable then I would definantly be interested. I might also ask for a few other parts for a couple bucks if your willing. Let me know.

Thanks.
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I am in Greensboro, NC. That is in the middle upper part of the state. Using streets and maps, it is 356 miles away. My car has only 69000 miles on the clock. Would you be interested in buying the whole thing? It has a good engine, tires are good, and I just put a new AC compressor on it before my wife hit a deer with it. That cost $700.00 Since that time, the transmission jams into gear. People have different theories as to what the problem is and the best bet is a couple of cheap parts that don't cost over $100.00 but take a lot of labor to install. Instead of fixing it, I am going to either sell it all at once or part it out. The engine runs nice and smooth. I would let the whole thing go for $1500.00. The deer damage is to the bottom of the left front fender near the door. A little bit of the door is bent but could be easily straightened. I can send a pictures if you would like.

David N. Smith.
If you want, send me your phone number at [email protected] and we can talk.

Think about it. I might be interested in selling the engine except, I don't have the stuff to get it out.
