Question 2000 Silverado Remove Auto Door Lock

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71.
I do not have the owner's manual.
Can someone give me the sequence to undo the auto door locks.

I have hated this feature for a while, with getting in and out of the truck all day long, just takes one more step to get out, because it does not unlock after it locks, so to get out, you have to hit the unlock button before you can exit the truck.

I was working a few days ago, and ran my brush cutter over a nest of wasps. I was getting stung left and right, ran to the truck, drove myself the mile back home, and while the wasps in my pants and shirt were stinging me, i was dang locked into my car. After hitting every dumb button on the door, i finally hit the unlock button to get out.

Finally time to get this problem fixed!!

Thanx for the help!!!

Re: 2000 Silverado Remove Auto Door Lock

Man I hate it when those bees do that!LOL. I don't know about the 2000 models, but on the 2001's, you proceed as follows: With the key off, pull back on the signal/multifunction lever and hold it back until you turn the ignition on and then off twice. Now release the signal lever. You should hear the door lock and unlock once. You are now in the programming mode. In the next ten seconds, you should press the lock side of the power lock switch on the door panel twice. That should do it, unless you waited more than 10 seconds, in which case the truck automatically exits the programming mode. Good Luck

My 2002 manual tells me how to program the autolock feature. Here it is scanned directly from my manual.

programmable Automatic Door Locks
(If Equipped)
If your vehicle has power door locks, it is equipped with a feature that enables you to program the door locks.
Your vehicle left the factory programmed to automatically
lock all doors when the vehicle is out of PARK (P), and all doors unlock when the vehicle is in PARK (P). You can set the automatic door lock feature to unlock the doors you select once the vehicle is in PARK (P).
If your vehicle has a manual transmission it left the factory programmed to lock all doors when the vehicle speed is greater than 15 mph (24km1h) for two seconds, and unlock all doors once the key is removed from the ignition. You can set the automatic door lock feature to unlock the doors you select once the key is removed from the ignition.
The following instructions detail how to program your
door locks.
LOCK
U to unlock
Press the top of the switch to unlock all the doors
at once.
The power door locks will operate at any time even when the ignition is off.
The power door locks will also automatically lock
when the vehicle is out of PARK (P), Or for manual
transmission, when the vehicle reaches 15 mph
(24 kmih). To unlock the doors, refer to the instructions
listed previously. The automatic locking feature can be
disabled, if you prefer. See "Programmable Automatic
Door Lacks" in the following text.
Operating the power locks may interact with the
theft-deterrent system (if equipped). See "Content
Theft-Deterrent" in the Index.

To enter the program mode you need to do
the following:
1. Beginning with the ignition in OFF. Pull back on the turn signal/multifunction lever all the way toward you until flash-to-pass is activated, and hold it while you perform the next step.
2. Turn your key to RUN and OFF twice. Then, with the key in OFF, release the turn signal/multifunction lever. Once you do this, you will hear the lock mechanism lock and unlock.
3. You are now ready to program the automatic door locks. Select one of the following four programming options and follow the instructions. You will have thirty seconds to complete programming. If you exceed the thirty-second limit, the locks will automatically lock and unlock to indicate you have left the program mode. If this occurs, repeat the procedure beginning with Step 1. You can exit theprogram mode any time by turning the ignition to RUN (the locks will automatically lock and unlock to indicate you are leaving the program mode.)
If the lock/unlock switches are not pressed while in
the programming mode, the automatic lock/unlock
setting will not be modified.

The following is a list of the available
Programming options:

. All doors lock/Only the driver's door unlocks: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once and then the unlock side once.
. All doors lock/All doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side twice.
. All doors lock/None of the doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel once, and then the unlock side three times.
. No doors lock/None of the doors unlock: Press the lock side of the power door lock switch on the door panel twice. This turns off the automatic lock feature.
For more information, see your dealer.

I've got a 2001 Silverado 1500hd. How do I activate auto door locks to lock when taken out of park and unlock when back in park?

hrm

the prob for me is, in 99 it's not when it's in gear or not, it's a rolling lock, when it exceeds 15mph they lock, granted when i unlock 'em, they stay unlocked until the truck gets turned off/started back up..

called the 'rolling lock' feature.. to me, it's the 'pain in the ass' feature

eh, i guess i can't mess anything up by trying the programming thing.. unless it does something completely different for 99s

I've got a 99 also and that auto door lock sucks. People are always trying to get out of my truck before I can manually unlock the doors. Hatchetryda, did you figure it out? Is it the same procedure as the 2001?
