Question fuel filter

I need to replace the fuel filter in my 97 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 liter.

I have heard that it is hard to replace but can somebody tell me how and where it is located?

Thanks any input would be great

Re: fuel filter

I believe you have to drop the gas tank and it is part of the fuel pressure regulator. I'm trying to find a filter at an autoparts store(autozone, pepboys, etc.) and no one carries it. Have you found that part anywhere other than the dealer?

My fuel filter is outside the gas tank. I have a 93 though. I'll check the books tonight to see if the 97 is different. Dropping the tank isn't that bad it's just bulky and awkward. Works best to have a friend help.

Follow-up - Looks like the filter is in the tank along with the fuel pump. It lists the filter as not serviceable so I'm geussing that it's a metal screen and might able to be cleaned out manually. Good Luck

I have a 97' jeep grand cherokee 4wd/v-8 and the fuel filter is part of the pressure regulator and is definitley in or on the tank. Chilton's makes it look fairly simple to drop the tank, but who knows. I found this part for $102 at the dealer. Autozone has a 96' filter/regulator for $60, but I don't think they are compatible. I'm gonna change this myself in the next few weeks. I'll give an update.

Re: fuel filter

yeah that would be great if you could just keep me posted.

I orded a chilton's manuel back on monday and i am waiting for it. I just love all the info they contain, but the people aournd here know lots more..lol

let me know what type of filter it is, if it is a screen type thing like byron said it might be that would be great.

Im kindof low on money right now, but will do anything to keep my jeep running well.

Thanks
