What's your gas mileage in your Tundra?

What kind of gas mileage are you getting in your Tundra (city/freeway) and what type of gas do you use?


Me......13 best case city, 18 best case freeway. Arco 87 Octane.

I think I tend to be around 15 in the City (though that includes a fair amount of freeway driving). Also around 18 on straight freeway. I'm usually back and forth between Chevron/Arco/Texaco. Also 87 octane. Sure is nice not having to pay all that extra for premium...

And by the way, this mileage is pretty close to my last truck which was a 94 Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger) with the 3.0L V6! Still can't figure that one out!

Try using gas other than ARCO. In my opinion, ANY other fuel company has better fuel than ARCO. I prefer Union 76 or Chevron. Also, depending on how many miles your truck has on it, the mileage should get better with more miles on your engine 15K+. Goodluck.

Thanks, SeattleT.....I've heard from guys working in the oil industry that Arco is about the only type gas that is consistant. That they all mix it up pretty well. I'm going to test that out by taking your suggestion. My last fillup (yesteday) was only 11 mpg, and I didn't have my foot in it, so changing types or experimenting sure couldn't hurt. Lots of folks swear that Chevron is tops. I also only have 1500 miles on the engine, so I'm sure it's still as tight as it could be......I'll post the results of changing gasoline brands in a couple of weeks (I only put on about 8-10 miles/day on the average to and from work, so it will be awhile before I get rid of the tank of Arco and fill up with 76 or Chevron). Thanks again for the idea, sure hope it works....

I've heard this before about ARCO. In fact, for a while, I actually cut them out of my mix and stuck exclusively with Chevron/Texaco. I think I got pulled back into ARCO with the recent drops in prices. ARCO was often times up to $0.20/gal cheaper. That adds up on a 26 gallon tank.

By the way, have you ever found anyone who has run any testing on the different types of gasoline? I've always wondered how the ARCO rumor started. Thanks for your input.

Side note: how's Seattle these days. Haven't been in a while. You must be in the middle of your rain event (the one that lasts from October to March).

I checked my mileage soon after buying my truck
(it had 10K miles on it)loaded with about 600-800 lbs. and averaged
19.285 I was quite pleased with that!! I use 87 octane, whatever
is cheapest, and have a HEAVY foot. Not only do I have a heavy foot but I love to hear my V8 w/Borla exhaust!!

Hey Bugser..........I noted in your signature that you changed your OEM horns.

What did you change them to, and why? Were your old horns the typical old Toyota truck "meep meep" road-runner sounding type horns? The '02 Tundra has REAL horns (finally, after owning Toyota trucks over the past 20 years, they FINALLY changed to a horn that doesn't embarress me when I hit it and that someone just might be able to hear).

You got it!! The horns SUCKED ! I replaced them with after market horns from Auto Zone. They are made by Blazer and are $12.99 ea. They're not great but a definite improvement!!

If you want good loud horns try "Hella Horns" they are really good and they get the attention when you need to also.

16 mpg on average with my 05 D Cab 4x4. A little better on long freeway trips.

I have a 2004 4-dr and in pure city driving I only get 12 mph! On a flat HWY like I-8 doing 70-75 mph I get about 16 1/2. If I drive 50-65 mph I get 18-19 mpg.

Would love to get better mileage!!!! A friend says he has a "Tornado" on all 4 of his cars & trucks and they get 2-4 mpg better with it. But looking at the threads on this site it seems like a rip off.............

Best I ever got was 21.5 but I was only doing 58mph on a 300 mile trip. I just wasn't in a hurry that day!!! Talk about a boring drive. Usually get 18 mpg hwy.

The Tornado fuel saver does not work. I did try one on my 05 d cab 4x4 and there was no improvement in gas mileage.
