'94 4.6 oil pressure

I have a '94 Tbird 4.6 with 190,000km on it thats about a 118,000 miles the oil pressure reads great sometimes and other times it reads low. I thought it might just read low after it warmed up but this is not the case. Sometimes it reads low when you start the car and reads higher later and sometimes its just the opposite. Could this be a bad gauge or could the oil pump be weak I have no idea, any help would be nice. I hope its not serious because I love this car. Thanks for any help.

Re: '94 4.6 oil pressure

You can buy a mechanical oil pressure gauge at Pepboys for around $20. Put a tee fitting in the block so that you can use the stock gauge and the new one at the same time. By comparing the readings of the two you can tell if the stock gauge or sending unit is bad or not.

Re: '94 4.6 oil pressure

a new sending unit is cheaper then buying an extra gauge. i replaced the sender unit on my 4.6 2 times now. And well, my car just reads 0 oil pressure, once and a while itll shoot up to normal but it normall sits where it does when the car is off.... i think i just have a bad gauge pod though because my odomater quit working as well. i know i have good oil presure though or my car would be a boat ancre lol.
