Question Best Chevy offroad 4X4 you can get used for cheap?

Im just wondering what you guys think would be the best used stock truck (model and year with approx. price) for modding it into a offroad truck. Im talking like lift kit and big mudders with a 350 at least and all that good jazz. I have a feeling your ganna be saying something Z71 but what model/year C/K or S10 (or whatever) would be the best to get for modding into something like that? I want it to be single cab (need the bench seat) normal bed and that kinda stuff. Any suggestions or comments would be great, seeing as to how every other post i put on here gets treated like a red headed step child

In my opinion unless you are running a baja, The truck of my choice would be a C/K 1987 or older with the solid front axle and in a 3/4 or 1 ton.

haha, no baja for me yet. I kinda just want a little rock crawler kinda truck. Lifted and Big tires with at least a 350 and the 4X4 of course. So basically any kind of single cab C/K 87 or older? Did they have the Z71 option and everything back then, or am i just ganna have to make sure its 4X4? And dont most C/K's come with a 305? Thanks for the suggestion.

Most C/K trucks come with 350's. Blazers like mine are fun lifted up, but expect to pay around 6-10 grand for one. 6 inch lift kits are around 1500, and big ass tires like those are around 500 each. I'd get an early 90's k series truck. Short bed, regular cab.

6 grand doesn't sound that bad for a lifted crazy truck heh. I like the look of my truck I have now but its a rear wheel drive 305...not worth lifting more than I already did and putting big tires on it would just make it slower. I'll look into some early 90's single cab short beds and all thanks for the help.

Unlifted. As you see they are quite rare.

lol oops. I knew that i was just thinking that a $1500 lift isnt that bad, and 6 grand if its running good and all isnt as much as i thought it was. mixed the two together but i know what you meant heh.

look at a K2500, they are really heavey duty trucks, chevy ofcourse without a doubt. Get some exahust system in there and a 6 inch lift, have the stock rear diff replaced and get a good hydraulic winch hooked up front and your set for some serious ofroading.

I looked on the net for K2500's and thats like exactly the look and everything i would be going for. Now all i have to do is pay the last $200 off my truck payment and save up for the camaro im ganna get ($1,400) THEN i get to save for one of them beasts. YAY! And yeah these trucks were made pretty well. about 250,000 miles (odometer stoped working after 230,000 and its been a year and a half so maybe even more) and all its needed is some minor work and new front rotors. Tranny slips a bit but i just hauled TWO TONS of concrete in it yesterday on freeway and everything with it running just perfect! It was pretty funny at the concrete place the guy with the forklift didn't want to put it in there but i told him to anyways and made me sign a waver saying if it broke it wasn't their fault and so on. I hate making trips so i thought "eh what the hell" :smokin". (its a half ton truck ) I put in some crazy good rear shocks with my uncle that lifted the back like 3 inches, and thats about the only thing done except for its frankenstien engine. I love my truck...

[IMG][/IMG]

Can maybe see the shocks and such in that one.

EDIT: The truck was riding about 3 inches from the ground in the rear when it was full. lol im sure it wasn't good for it but it made me apretiate my little girl just that much more. Thats the best kind, mild and well tamed in public, but can also take the biggest load you can throw in her! haha

You know what you can do, is get that bottom sand blasted and then get that repainted with rhino linning, you will be impressed on how it will look when it is done, brings it back to life for another couple fo years before your in for some serious repair.

Keep the rust out and u will be happy for a longtime.
