Angry 2002 Frontier - governor on engine

Is the governor on the 2002 Frontier for a mechanical limitation reason or is it a Government regulation to restrict the top end of the vehicle to 95 mph?
Can it be removed?

Why would you want to drive that vehicle at any faster of a speed, thats just asking for trouble.

Re: 2002 Frontier - governor on engine

It's not just asking for trouble, its a decent question.

I, too, would like to know. I've already got it lowered, so the top-heaviness isnt much of an issue anymore.

So, again:

How would one go about removing or cancelling the speed limiter?

rev limiter information would also be greatly appreciated.
