Hood Paint blistering

I did a searrch here and didn't find any comments.
I have a 2001 Aurora that now has 57000 miles. There is some bubbling/corrosion in the paint on the front of the hood. I stopped into a body shop for an estimate and he just looked and said" that's rust through, I can't fix it. That is a warranty issue, take it to your dealer".
I go to a Pontiac dealer and his bodyshop amanger says it is an aluminum hood, not rust through. That appears to be the case, but there is oxidation iunder the paint.
So after contacting Olds customer service and spendign a couple months negotiating the Olds rep says it is out of warranty but in good faith they will offer me 50% on re-painting the hood.
I question the deal based on my little understanding of materials and claim that the issue exists because there was contamination present and the paint didn't bond properly to the aluminum.
Turns out GM has issued a service bulletin #01-08-51-004A that mentions several GM models with this issue.

So I'm thinking about small claims court, anyone have any information on these issues.

did you ever had a leather bra on the car at any point?

I have seen this happen to other GM cars with aluminum hoods after 2000 (the GM car in question is a Bonneville) and its due to bad factory priming of the hood before finish paint on the aluminum hood.

I would take the 50% discount and get your hood professionally repainted, before it gets worse and the offer is taken off the table.

I absolutley agree that the situation is a result of improper preparation at the factory. That's what I call a manufacturer's defect. I don't understand how that translates into the responsibility being 50% mine? Doesn't the manufacturer have the responsibiliity to meet a performance expectation that the paint will remain for more than 36 months?

You'd think so, but thats the thing about a warranty, after a certain amount of time/milage it COULD potentially be other factors that affect maintenance as opposed to factory defects.

At the same time, I have never heard of a 50% discount on body work, I dont even think extended warranties (thru a 3rd party company, which btw I dont trust as far as I can throw) would cover it.

Did they say how much it would cost after the 50% discount?

It might not seem fair, but 50% discount is a lot better than no discount at all.
I'd bite the bullet and accept their offer.

I have dealt with the same situation on my 2001 Aurora. I had the service manager at the dealer look at it and confirm that it was corrosion, not rust from normal wear. I than requested the area rep to be contacted so he could also note the problem. I then referred by to my owners manual which states that there is a 10yr warranty for corrosion. I suggest you look into the warranty and show your dealer. I had my complete hood painted for free. Hope this helps you.
