Question 92 sunbird question

Hey guys and girls, im new to this forum, Im thinking about buying a 92 sunbird with 123000 miles for 500$. The only problem is that the guy said the clutch was out on it, and i was wondering if possibly the transmission was bad too. It has the 3.1 with a 5 speed, when you put it in gear the car doesnt move at all but stays running. I was wondering if anyone knows if its the tranny too.

Re: 92 sunbird

MOre than likely its just the clutch. Unless he did something really stupid, those trans are hard to hurt. The clutch directly connects the engine an trans, so if the clutch is out, the car isn't going to move. Make sure if for any reason you need to add fluid to that trans, use the correct fluid. GM used both an isuzu and getrag 5 speed in the j-bodies, and they take different fluid, use the wrong one and your trans is toast.
