Finally raced a stock WRX

It was a hatch back, but whatever.

So I am driving around Saturday morning on my way to the video game store to buy some Super Nintendo controllers, I see a silver wrx speeding around and so I follow him until we hit a red light.

And he didn't race me in any way shape or form. I don't even think he knew i was there. So i turn at the next light and come behind some 3rd party car that I have never seen before, it had like 4 bikes on the back so i couldn't see it. It said Mazda on the license plate cover but I don't think it was a Mazda Vehicle. But in front of him was a stock blue WRX hatch back with two guys in it. The silver car in front of me was trying to race me but I passed around him halfway through second and pulled up next to the WRX.

The two guys were staring at me and kind of laughing, probably assuming i was some ricer with no real engine work to the car. Not that I have any work other than intake and exhaust but its at least a ZC motor swap.

So we race down the street until we hit a red light, and they both look at me and nod, I smiled back thinking "I just want to hang with him"

I think this guy was probably the worst driver on the planet, I jumped on him and he didn't catch back up.

He didn't fall behind much, and I was only in front of him from what I got at the start, so his front bumper was at where my door opens, he didn't get any farther behind, and I didn't pull from him any more, and it stayed that way until about 70 when we had to slow down for another red light.

But I was very excited that I got him that time. We stopped and he said "Your car is nice, but my car is just a stock WRX and it weights 3000 lbs." I said, "Ya, my motor is stock except for intake and exhaust"

And that was my WRX experiance. Yay for Honda's beating Suburu's.

He wasn't racing, or he doesn't know how to drive. AWD turbos rock the shit out of FWD Hondas off the line, truss me.

I believe he was talking about the civic not the wrx. There is no wrx hatchback, only a wagon and a 4 dr. And besides it would make a difference because of the weight difference between the 2.

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

I agree, but he said he hopped a car off the line on him and then held that throughout the "race". The TSi Talon I raced at the track a few months ago rocked me about 5 cars off the line, I pretty much sat there and spun while watching him just fly past me but I also caught him at the end of the track.

I know it doesn't mean he can't win, but if the AWD driver knows anything at all he'd rock the shit out of any Honda for the first 100' or more.

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

low power cars wont show that much diff in wheelspin even in FWD, as long as u dont sidestep the clutch at any major revs

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

AWD cars are bit different when it comes to launching. You just dont dump the clutch. You have to slip the clutch to keep the rpm up. I drove my friends 92 eclipse awd and i dumped the clutch. Sure the rpm was at 7k! But when i released the clutch the rpm dropped really low and i didn't even spin much. SO my boy taught me how to launch and man it took off real crazy!

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

yeah...you gotta feather the clutch.. dumping the clutch just breaks things..

4 wheel burnouts are cool though

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

Dunno about over there, but in the 8 or 9 years that we've had WRXs here, the Wagons have always been down on power compared to the sedans.

WRXs have always been notorious for blowing gearboxs if you continually dump them. I think Subaru may have sorted it now, but if I'd just bought one, I wouldn't be looking to test it (if they can prove you blew it by dumping the clutch, your warentee on the drivetrain is void).

Re: Finally raced a stock WRX

Well as i said, he was the crappiest driver on the planet, we stopped and talked after the "race" and so I am pretty sure he was at least trying a little bit, and he bogged off the line.

Wagon, I got it, my car is a CRX, I was reffering to the WRX.

My car is a CRX with a ZC DOHC, Evolution catback exhaust, and an OBX shortram intake. Thats basically all the engine mods that are done. Its almost a stock ZC... so its not really that fast, just kind of quick.

I would love an AWD turbo, When i bought my CRX i was debating between a CRX and a GSX, but the CRX became available first, and I really needed a car so i went with that.
