Unhappy Windstar still stalling

Our 98 Windstar 3.8L has been stalling when coming to a stop (not turning) and once in awhile at very slow speeds in a parking lot (usually while turning into a parking spot). Originally it happened more in parking lots so I replace the ps pump, no help.. Found this wonderful informitive web site and several people had similar posts and the problem was resolved with the IAC. Replaced the IAC, Spark plug wires and plugs a week ago but the problem continues. Any Ideas?? I do most car work myself, so the van hasn't been to a shop for this problem No CEL on either (maybe it's burnt out). I am an average DIY mechanic but I am not sure if the EGR or PCV would have anything to do with this. Please help, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Alan

Does the CEL illuminate when you turn the key. It should light for a few moments to test the lamp?

Alan- keep your eyes & ears open for a slight vacuum leak somewhere (PCV line, fuel pressure regulator line, EGR, etc) that may be the cause of your grief.
G/luck

Re: Windstar still stalling

I was worried about a small vac leak but I have been unable to locate one yet. I've replaced a few vac lines in the last year just because the way they looked. I know I replaced the line to the pcv and the pcv valve. Maybe I will breakdown and by a vac/pressure tester. This might be a dumb question to the earlier post, but is the service engine soon light the same as the CEL. I thought of that after my post and checked it this morning. I can see the service engine soon but not CEL

CEL stands for check engine light.

Re: Windstar still stalling

Maybe I was misunderstood, I understand what CEL stands for but our windstar (I found out after reading the manual, which I should have done before asking the question) that the service engine soon light is basically the same thing and there is not actual CEL. The sevice engine light is not coming on during any of the stalling but the light is functioning properly.

Re: Windstar still stalling

As stated before I am only an average DIY mechanic and my knowledge is limited and raw. With that clause I will continue. I replaced the IAC and the stalling issue continued which is when I posted. After reading a few replies I checked for vac leaks and didn't hear any present or visually see any holes. I have read in certain articles/books/posts that disconnecting the battery resets certain things such as idle speeds. So I decided to diconnect my battery, let it sit for 15min. and reconnected, let it idle for about 15min. After that, 3 weeks of stall free driving(this problem used to happen at least 1-3 times during normal driving). Is this luck or could that have helped. Now I have a torque converter issue, See post about trouble code p1744.

Thanks,
alan
