Noob ?'s

I was looking at an eclipse (97) for my first car, but have become interested in the 3000gt. I have a few ?s.

1. What years are generation 2s.
2. What are the year differences.
3. What years look similar to 97.

Re: Noob ?'s

1st ?: 94-97 i beleive, someone correct me if i'm wrong cause i got the impression that 98 and 99 were considered 3rd gen

2nd ?: 91-93 vr4's have 300hp 305lbs tq, 94-99 have 320hp 315lbs tq
reaon being because 1st gen only produce 9psi while the rest run 11psi

3rd?: 94-99 all look basically identical exept for the 99 wing

others will add in or correct the info i've given

Re: Noob ?'s

This ? gets addressed at least 2 a month, probably more. There are some difference in the internals of the engines that evolved over the years. The trannys were switched from a 5spd to 6spd. The engines switched from 2 bolt mains to 4 bolt mains.
1st gen = 91-93, 2nd gen =94-99. 99s have been called teh 3rd gen due to a different front end and 3mm lifters to eliminate the infamous 'lifter tick' that plagued the earlier models. 97 had the hoop wing similar to an eclipse spoiler. Some features such as Active Aerodynamics, Active exhaust, and Electronically controlled suspension were only available for a few years, those 3 had all been ceased by 97 I believe.

Youngvr4 mentioned the difference in hp and torque, and this can easily be remedied by doing the free boost mod which takes about 2 mins.

As far as specifics, try using the search feature on this forum and finding more details on the evolving of the engine internals and such as it has been written out plenty of times.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Noob ?'s

1.youngvr4- I love that body kit! What kind is that?

edit- I am stupid, I thought that car was a 1992 3kgt. What kind of car and body kit is that? Prolly really expensive.

2. Also, what is a price range for a 1992 ?

3. What is the gas mileage for a 1992 3kgt LS ?

4. How does insurance compare to an eclipse?

Thanks

u gotta be more specific with ur questions. price range for a decent 92 could go from 2000 to probably 10 or 11,000. depending on what model how many miles all that stuff. gas mileage for a 92 SL is about 18 - 24 i believe but i could be wrong. and most likely the 3000gt will have higher insurance rates. how much higher i cant be positive it all depends on what model eclipse what year all that good stuff.

Re: Noob ?'s

ya know for some reason, my insurance isn't high at all with that car. maybe because its age. if it wasn't for my record. my insurance would have been 220 a month

1st gen is 91-94 2nd is 94-99 i dont believe there is even a 3rd gen. I dont really know if he is looking for a vr4 or a base model gt. whatever you do dont get a gt base over 96 cause they downgraded the engine hp and torque.

Re: Noob ?'s

Well as you can see from my name i was going to get a 97 gsx but i started looking at the 3000GT's and now i'm in love with them. My dad wont let me get the VR-4 till i'm 16 but for now i have a 95 3000GT base and i love it.

The 91-93 3000GT's have pop-up headlights. 94-99 have the type of headlights that my car has (in my sig). I might add that the 99 has alittle different style of headlight then the 94-98's do...but they are not that different. In 94 they made all VR-4 6 speeds and they also made all VR-4 have 18" wheels (94 or 95 not sure).

The pic in youngvr4 sig is a 94 GTO with Pit Road M Falcon SPL body kit, carbon fiber hood, and Drag GT wing. The paint is MSPL Gold paint. The GTO is the VR-4 in Japan. Under the hood is; Mfr Fighter M-SPL connecting rods, pistons piston rings, valvesprings, intake manifold, injectors, cam gears, spark plug wires, intercooler, clutch, stainless steel brake lines, radiator hose, oil cooler, earthing system, short shift kit, carbon drive shaft and valve cover; Nismo fuel regulator and fuel pump; Nissan throttle body; Greddy reacing spark plugs T88-38GK singel turbo, and PRofec R boost controller. If you want to know more about it just ask.

that Pitroad M car is gonna have some competition with Matt Monet as far as quarter mile times go with his DR1000 car at dynamic racing. If he would have ran at sea level, he would have gotten a 10.3 in the quarter at only 21 psi, of course, he maxed out his 880cc injectors so he's gotta go up in fuel. I would expect him to be in the 9s pretty soon if he makes a pass at sea level. The DR1000s are capable of running well over 30lbs of boost.
