water pump

hey there guys,
recently i was driving down the interstate when i got the scent of anti -freeze coming through the vents...
the engine temp gauge skyrocketed and i had to stop...
I opened the m50 (1994 525i) and found that one of the hoses had come loose from the water pump. After closer examination, i saw that that part of the pump had broken off and was stuck into the hose so the whole thing had to be replaced...then i found another part broken into another hose in the same manner!!
Question: - is this the reason the temp went so high? I had the radiator flushed before the start of the summer season.
any ideas...
would you guys now recommend metal pumps instead of the standard plastic/rubber ones?

thanks

Re: water pump

I remember hearing that the plastic part that the hoses go into wernt made very well and were brittle after a while. I cant remember if its for 5 series 7 or 3 series.

Re: water pump

Thanks man....
I am very happy you told me because that is the same thing that i found out....
i just purchased an after market one with more rigid parts.
About you hearing about the parts being brittle, it was surely for the 5 and 7 series because my sister has a 7 series and her's went out too.
Thanks and godspeed
