I have a 99 escort. The problem is it has hit a deer and the airbags went off. I cut them out. The car still ran great for a few months. Then the bat went dead on me. We jumpstarted it and took the bat out and it still ran fine, meaning the alt was ok, right? Now the bat light stays on, bat keeps going dead, has new bat and won't stay running unless there are bat cables connected to another cars bat. Can't spend alot on the car so what should I do???? PLAESE HELP ME!!!! And yes I am a female trying to it on my own. May be famale but not stupid.

Get your airbags reset. Me thinks a relay or switch is stuck closing the circuit (which sets off the airbags) draining your battery when the car is off.

I agree with Jet-Lee, you have a short somewhere that is draining the battery. You may be able fix this yourself by getting under the dash and finding the air bag wiring. Usually they are color coded yellow and are clearly marked. Once you find them pull the plugs apart that connect the air bags from the system. This should disconnect the bags and the short. If not you will need to take the car to a mechanic to have the entire air bag system reset. I would recommend you get a new set of airbags as soon as you can. Great safety feature.
