My car is also in need of new clutch... how much are the oem clutches in comparison to aftermarket ones? What do you guys suggest? Also how much $$$ am I looking to pay if I take it to a mechanic to have it put in? [I don't have the experience or tools to do it myself otherwise I would].

Re: Clutch Help

I would get the ACT 2600 only if you're planning to mod your car a good bit. If you're just doing mild things (intake/exhaust), then the ACT 2100 will be great!

Re: Clutch Help

If www.vfaq.com doesn't have a clutch install, a service manual will do. There ARE tips you should find, like to only use OEM on certain parts, those of which I can't remember for the life of me.

Re: Clutch Help

You want to use OEM throw out bearing (plastic inner sleeve, not metal), and mos tpoeple prefer BG Synchroshift for fluid. Its about an 8 hour job on a virgin DSM, when you know how it all works. Plan for a full day if its your first one. Nothing about it is terribly hard though. Make absolutely certain the flywheel step height is cut to .610, some shops will just think you dont know what you are talking about since they dont usually get requests for step height (they just machine the mounting pads the same amount they cut the firction surface). Make them verify it for you before you pay. I would recomend the 2600 over the 2100, almost everyone that runs the 2100 upgrades after a short time. If this is a stock car is will just be a A-B type car, then sure a 2100 or stock clutch will work. I usualy get my ACT clutch parts from sowboyracing.

Thanks to all that have replied. Got the clutch out yesterday, and it allready had a ACT 2600 in it. The clutch was slipping quite a bit so we are replacing it with a new ACT 2600. Goin to the Machine shop today to have the flywheel resurfaced and then back in it goes! Thanks for all your help.

Got the new clutch in and working, come to find out it really didn't need it anyways. Found the real problem when I took the car for a ride. Still felt like the car was slipping. When I accelerated hard the front tires starting spinning in the rain. Come to find out that all the power was only going to the front wheels and nothing to the rear. I removed the transfer case and opened it up. Wow what a mess it was, no gears left at all, no wonder why it was feeling that way......

Luckly I found one local for a good price. It's goin in tomorrow morning and should be working fine after that. Thanks again for all your help!

Re: Clutch Help

It is very unlikely that your viscous coupler is still good. No harm in seeing how it runs, but if you plan to do any serious launching I would expect to replace that VC. I finally wore mine out after all these years, the complete coating of rubber in my front fenders and front bumper cover gave it away
