power steering shudder
has anyone experienced this? I notice it at low speed or at at stop, when I turn the wheel left or right (but mostly right) there is a shudder while steering and the steering is very stiff. Fluid level reads full, any ideas?
I don't know if its related, but it also seems that there is something loose in the front end steering related. When coming to a stop i can feel a clunk on the driver side if on rough pavement. I've checked the ball joints and tie rods, and found the inner tierod is bad on the passenger side, where I also feel a clunk/wobble through the steering wheel. I've heard people complain about the steering box/rack on these vans, but was unable to find search results on this forum, any ideas?? |

Re: power steering shudder
Get that inner tie rod fixed before it breaks and takes out your rack. The stiff steering could be caused by the bad tie rod binding the steering linkage and the wobble is related to the tie rod as well

Re: power steering shudder
GM did a recall recently on power steering shudder at low speeds. You may have this problem. I believe it affected 98-99 models.

Re: power steering shudder
it affected all the way back to 96, I read about that after I posted my response. The recall is a lower pinion bearing, and will affect the steering to the right the most, making it feel as though you have no assist

I looked but found no steering related recall, does anyone know the specifics? I don't wanna take it to a dealer and have them fix it and then charge me for it. I like to show up prepared
