cops and teen drivers
This one is for the teens...
Maybe its only me in my area, but it seems as if the cops love to follow the teenage drivers. You could be doing nothing wrong, but if your a teenager driver, they are gonna be all over you. As much as cops like to say they dont profile drivers on the road, we all know its bullshit. Any other teens out there havin this problem? |

Re: cops and teen drivers
YES and that’s going to be everywhere because cops know how much teen (especially us guys) insurance will go up.

Re: cops and teen drivers
yup. only visible thing done to my car is the muffler (connected to cat-back...not just a fart can) and i've been driving the limit and have had cops follow me for a few miles before. luckly i don't generally drive like an ass so they really don't have anything to pull me over for (i won't get into my loud exhaust ticket)

I get followed from time to time, but its mostly because the month tag on my plate is so fadded it's illegible.

Re: cops and teen drivers
That happens a lot around here, especially with American muscle cars. I've got my windows tinted pretty dark now, and you can't really tell how old I am just by driving by. So now I just have regular Camaro prejudice with the cops, instead of teenage prejudice added on.

Re: cops and teen drivers
i actualy haven't had that problem yet. Cops are prety leaniant around here.. like today i was drivin back to my house, and there's never cops in my residential area, and i was drivin 40 cuz there's realy no houses around, and 2 cops drove by and didn't do shit, so either there radars were off or i just got lucky

cops
yeah i had that problem the other day. i was drivin my 80 camaro...bright red with a 454 4spd and dual 3 inch exhaust all the way back...4 inch cowl. im sure the cops thought it looked kinda shady or something like that. i was cruisin down the road about 45mph keepin a steady pace...the rd wasnt full of houses or all curvey...and they pulled me over just cause im a young kid. 17 yrs old and i dont drive like an asshole...im one of the people who just like to show their car and shit. i admitt i do get on it once in a while. but they pull almost everyone over that has a fast looking, sounding car. they have no lives. they should be focusing on the OLD OLD people...the people that actually crash lol

Well, just to add one thing, profiling goes far beyond just how old you are. As much as police say that they don't profile nor do they tolerate their officers doing it, it will always happen. Besides age, factors include the type of area you are in, the type of car you are driving, and if they feel suspicious about you at all. Again, its sad to say it but it will probably never end no matter what and they only thing you can do is continue to follow the law and give them no reason to give you a ticket.

Re: cops and teen drivers
Well I drive a cop magnet and they are attracted to my car that's for sure. When it's a city/town cop I drive the shortest route out of they're jurisdiction, but when it's County, I drive in circles. Over the winter a cop was following me all over Batavia (the town I work in) and when you go downtown there they're are some really steep hills (atleast for Illinois) on the east side of the river and it happened to be snowing and the snow was sticking perdy good. We got to a light and it turned yellow...I coulda made it easily if I wanted to but I stopped and when it turned green I took off nice and slow and the cop behind me was stuck spinning his tires.

Again more ignorance--
Its statistically proven-- teen drivers impose higher risk. I don't care how good of a driver you think you are. You have more to learn. He follows you because there is a pretty good chance you'll screw up. Incorporating the phrase- "There are no stupid questions, just stupid people" 87_mustang_gt-- congrats on saying what type of car mom and dad bought you. But no-one can predict how many cops will follow you. It depends on how you drive Things the cop will be looking for: wreckless driving speeding expired registration tags expired inpection (if applicable) or a mod made completely obvious such as lack of exhaust or illegal lights (yes snake eyes ARE illegal) failure to obey a sign and racing If you do notice a cop in your rear view mirror. Just take to the fact that hes there--DON'T DRIVE THROUGH YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROR. Keep notice to traffic and patterns ahead. Most of the cititations occur after the driver can't stop looking into his rear view mirror and doesn't see a sign and fails to obey it. Most teen drivers are nervous of cops and as such do this exact thing, making it easy for cops to give them a ticket---- now you know... |

Re: cops and teen drivers
Quote:
1. cops generally follow teens more because they know we're more likely to freak out and screw up...so they are actually profiling 2. its not just teens that are crappy drivers...we really get a bad rap on this one. i'll admit i occasionally make mistakes, but i always concentrate on the road 100%. obviously there are a lot that don't, but don't say all teen drivers suck because we're young. 3. age and driver skill are not as related as many people think. i've almost caused 2 accidents in 1.5 years of driving. not a bad average if you ask me. i've had people almost hit me 3 or more times in one day more times than i care to remember. just because some 40 year old soccer mom has been driving for 20 years more than me does not mean she is a better driver than me 4. don't assume that since we're young that we're automatically going to rice our cars. i've spent less than $100 on exterior mods, but close to $1000 on the engine. that's all for now...hand hurts too much
