Gas slow to fill and check eng light

2002 Elantra

The past two weeks my gas tank has been very slow to fill at the pumps.. I now have a check engine light on. Any ideas as to what this could be. There has been no noticable difference in driving and the gas cap is on tightly.

I'd like to have a vague idea as to what's going on before taking it somewhere and i'm sure someone out there may have come across this.

Now for the weird part.. it's back to filling normally but the check engine light is still on.

I know it's got nothing to do with which station i fill up at because i'm using the same place...

Very strange !

Re: Gas slow to fill and check eng light

when you fill a tank with gas the air must be displaced . there is a valve on top of the gastank that lets the air out when gas goes in . i have seen this valve stick shut . when it is stuck shut the air can not leave and the gas tank gets vapor locked causing the gas pump to click off
