'99 Grand Am Questions

I'm thinking about buying a '99 grand am se with a 2.4 lt engine. I need something with good gas mileage. the dealer is asking $7900. It has 70,000 miles. It drives nice, rides fairly well. Are grand ams a good car? There seems to be a lot of them around. Do they fly to pieces after 100,000 miles? Is the 2.4 a good motor? Thanks for any help, I've never owned a ponitac before, so its all new to me.

Re: '99 Grand Am Questions

the 2.4 isn't your best bet for dependability. I would look for a v-6 equipped one, just make sure the intake leak problem common with those engines has been repaired. 2.4's have a bad tendency to crack heads and have head gasket issues. A better bet for a basic transportion car would be a Sunfire/Cavalier with the 2.2 engine.
