i just got the car running after it has sat for about a year. i drove it 115 miles and it has lost oil pressure it will fluctuate just a little when it has higher rpms but still to low and you can hear clanging in the heads. we ran some "Seafoam" through the oil for about 15 minutes, and then changed the oil. this helped a little but the pressure is still too low. does anyone have any suggestions about what to do, where to get a new oil pump, or anything that would pertain.

if its about 3 tick marks up from the bottom after the car warms up, then thats normal, so as long as the oil warning light is off and you can see your oil pressure gauge fluctating, then you are fine. If you dont like your oil pressure readings, try different weight oils.

Re: low oil pressure - oil pump?
I just had/having the same problem.
I'm 99% sure that the noise from the heads are your lifters...my lifters are doing the samething. Their is a long term fix and a short term fix. Short term fix is to be in park then rev your engine up to about 3000 rpm...it will fix the ticking sound till you start it up again. The other thing to do is buy some 3rd gen 3mm port lifter. You can get them from here http://www.3sxperformance.com/engine-upper.asp go down till you see Lash adjusters. As far as the oil pressure droping...i also have the same problem. It only happens when i have beem drive my 3000 for about 60 miles or when i have been running the engine and its warmed up really really good. Then i come to a stop light or whatever then my oil pressure drops to almost nothing. It never happens going down the highway...but if i'm at a stop it does. Yes i do know that your oil pressure is higher when your going 60 mph on the highway then it is at a stop...but when the gauge is down to showing no pressure its a different story. Is this the same that happened to you likoao? BTW...if you are every on the road and your oil pressure is droping or down to nothing shut off the car as soon as you is it. I tryed a 20W-50 oil but that made the lifters tick louder to i changed back to a 10W-30 oil and the lifters still tick but not as loud...and i haven't had the oil pressure drop since. Any more questions just ask.

Quote:
dsm97gsx is correct, the noise from your heads is called lifter tick, every pre-99 car has it. And as he states it, only fix is to replace all 24 of your lifters with the 99 lifters, they have a 3mm opening vs. the 1mm opening which will do away with your lifter tick.
