Question 4.7 Liter Spark Plugs

My wife's sister's husband asked me to find out how to access the spark plug on his 2002 dodge ram p/u which has a 4.7 liter engine.
So far I have been able to find that this engine used seperate coils at each spark plug. A quick look at the engine did not even reveal spark plug location (no tell tale plug wires to follow). The plugs are supposed to be located in the center of the combustion chamber like a "hemi" but the chamber is not quite a hemispherical shape. I hope to find more information but would appreciate hearing from someone with personal knowledge as I promised to get some info.

p.s. Hello to everyone out there!

Re: 4.7 Liter Spark Plugs

there in your tappit covers It's kinda a pain in the butt. On either side of the engine, you'll see four flat black things sticking up with wires connected to them. You need to remove the nut that holds them down. I think it's 9MM? Once you remove the nut pull them straight up, the spark plugs are in the hole. Flat black things is best way I can describe them. They are the only things you have four of on each side of the engine. GOOD LUCK

Re: 4.7 Liter Spark Plugs

Thanks lil red but this one must have the plugs going through the intake as the valve covers are clean. Someone else said they might. I can't find any pictures so far. I guess I'll have to contact the dealer for illustrations.

Re: 4.7 Liter Spark Plugs

Thery are right there. You need to remove the air plenum to get easy access. The plugs coil assemblies are vertical with the 9mm nut inboard. They look like they are right at the edge of the heads. The plugs are down in wells that are about 5" deep. You will need a magnet, or other tool to get them out if they don't stay in the plug wrench.

I just changed mine two weeks ago.

Re: 4.7 Liter Spark Plugs

Believe it or not this spark plug issue was only a matter of curiosity. I was asked a question and usual channels of research turned up nothing. I am most grateful to all those who responded to my posting. My curiosity far outlasted the interest of the owner of the 4.7 liter.
