Re: 99 Gt Burnin oil like mad
How many miles are on the engine? There are a lot of things that can cause and engine to burn oil. You could have a bad intake manifold gasket, bad rings, a leaking front or rear main seal (you would see leaks not smoke) and you could have bad valve seals althought most of the smoke from these would be seen at start-up although they will cause a car to burn oil if they are too bad. If your car is high mileage you might try a product called Restore. It can stop a certain amount of oil burn by filling in scratches in the cylinder walls, but if it is burning like you say it is then there must be a problem elsewhere. There are other products on the market that will do the same thing. Hope these ideas help you diagnose the problem.

Re: 99 Gt Burnin oil like mad
The blackness can be caused by a rich condition in the fuel air circuit. The smoke from oil burning will usually be blue in color. Usually if you are burning oil the black residue will be oily to the touch. If it isn't oily then check to see if the fuel air mixture is correct.

Re: 99 Gt Burnin oil like mad
Does the car run bad or is it just consuming oil? IF it's running bad, I would guess you have a cracked head or at best a blown head gasket. These would cause excessive oil consumption w/o producing blue smoke.
