how do i remove the rear speakers so i can check the wiring?

you have to remove the rear seat to get the speakers out,

to do this first you need to remove the seat cushion .

there are two plastic pulls along the front edge of the cushion where it meets the carpet

pull on those then the cushion will release

then remove the seat back (this you should see how to do)

that gives you access to the rear deck and you should be able to take it from there.
