Re: 1995 auroa any good

yes it is true, there are a lot of problems w/ the 95 as you will see all over this forum. BUT what car dont you know w/ any problems??? And you call a T-BIRD reliable??????????? Anyway, ive owned my 95 since april and I LOVE MY CAR. Yes i've had to buy the obligatory A/C compressor, lol. As im sure nearly everyone in this forum has so im outta $700 bucks but after driving my car home this morning just cruising it makes the money and headache of owning one of these beast "ALLLL BETTER" To sum it all up. I haven't had any transmission issues (Knock on wood) previous owner replaced solenoids. Or any other issues, its a NIIIICE car and under the hood. OH BOY!!!!!

Re: 1995 auroa any good

If you are a college student, I wouldnt get an Aurora, you need disposable cash to pay for various repairs. As much as I like my car, it CAN be expensive to repair...the 95 was the first year for the Aurora and it had its share of problems. All fixable...and maybe all your lil issues in the car you're interested have been dealt with, but its risky.

Gas milage in a properly tuned Aurora is fantastic! Once 4000 lbs gets moving on the hwy, its all momemtum, however city driving, it can eat the gas. 91+ fuel ONLY my friend....it needs premium.

So, if you have the time, money and skill go for it. Otherwise, invest in a later model Aurora after school.

Re: 1995 auroa any good

I would like to think its more reliable then a similar aged T-bird.

Check the maintenance records on the 95 that you are going to see. If they dont have any, keep walking, be persistant regarding the records.

The Aurora V8 requireds premium fuel due to its high compression ratio (10.3:1) any turbocharged, supercharged or HIGH compression vehicle requires higher octane fuel. The car also comes standard with premium platinum tipped AC Delco spark plugs to ensure good spark and proper combustion.

Higher octane fuel will reduce KR in the engine compared to lower octane at high temperatures, KR results in lost HP. You also do not want to deal with bad predetonation issues with lower octane gas. It can create head damage. I am not KR specialist, but you dont need to be, just ensure that 91+ fuel is used.

Re: 1995 auroa any good

I run mid-grade in my RoRa and I have not had any problems. I've been doing this now for two years. I stay with one gas company, BP Amoco. If I am in a sitaution where one is not around, I use Shell. Hope this helps!!!!!!

Re: 1995 auroa any good

I would NEVER run mid-grade in my car, manufacturer states 90+. But its your cars, so if its mid or low grade that you want, who am I to stop you.

Re: 1995 auroa any good

*chuckle*
I didn't know it took premium until after I got my 95 home, popped the gas door to fill it up, and went "Awwww, sh**!"

I love my car, but parts ARE expensive since they don't share much woth other vehicles. It does have more maintenance issues than my other vehicles. I don't think I would have liked having it while in college- unless Mom and Dad paid the bills

Re: 1995 auroa any good

sanajn, its not an auroa its an Aurora
There are a few problems with this car this is true. The transmission is more sound than the T-bird. Since everything on the Aurora is electronic you may need to know some basics as far as bieng able to fix the Aurora should it happen to break. Since you have access to the internet this should be easy for you.
Parts are not that expensive on a 95 you just have to shop around. I have noticed that an AC Delco part is in general cheaper than buying at Pep Boys, Autozone, or Advance. I have worked at zone and advance and parts are expensive there. Ebay is a great resource. Rotors on our Auroras run about 20 bucks at the most thats pretty cheap.
I have a 95 also and I have had to replace the following:
CD Player (skipping)
RF Window Switch
Fuel Pressure Reg
Fuel Pump
Ignition Module/coils
Wiper switch
Transmission shift solenoids

All these were relatively cheap xcept for the fuel pump. If you are going to college forget about a V8 and get a toyota or honda.

Hope this helps you.

I don't know if this helps, but I am a college student and I own a 95 Aurora. But there has been some times that I have wished I would have just decided to go with something cheaper and more reliable. Nothing too major has gone wrong with my car. But I had a sensor go out on my tranny that they had to pull the tranny to fix it. (I guess that might be considered major.) But I've had probably $2000 worth the repairs since I bought it about 2 years ago. But its been driving like a charm for about the last year or so.
And the gas is a killer also. Now I wouldn't put mid-grade in it. I don't understand people and why anyone would save ten cents to risk messing up your engine. ten cents * 15 gallons is $1.50!!! why would anyone want to risk there engine to save $1.50?? That is like a candy bar and a pop. Not worth it. But still, filling up my tank from about a 1/4 of a tank costs about $35 which, no matter how many times I fill up, my jaw drops everytime. My last car cost about $20. And that was when gas prices were high (not like they aren't now). But mid-grade would have cost $32 and regular would have cost $29. $3 or $6 isn't worth it to mess up my engine and have to put a new $3000 engine in it to save $6 a week. I might be a cheap-skate but I'm not that much of a cheap-skate. Hope you see my point there.

Re: 1995 auroa any good

dmorlow, thats not being a cheapskate at all in my opinion, its being responsible. A few extra dollars to feed our cars what it needs to operate properly is well worth it. Plus your milage is better due to a cleaner burn

When it comes to making a decision on a 1995 Aurora...its simple, have disposable cash, a bankroll to insure it, electrical skill, factory service manuals. Then yer good to go!

Unless you have that, look for a later model Aurora, or by a Cavy/Sunfire/Neon/Corolla/Civic/Kia whatever as a "beat me up car" until you finish school.
