Exhaust smoke

I have a 1992 Mirage and I am having a problem with blue/white smoke coming out of my tailpipe along with moderate fumes. It's not really a problem while driving and it doesn't leave a smoke trail, however, if I'm idling at a stop light, drive-thru, etc. a little of it comes out and when I accelerate from idling more smoke is coming out (as if the exhaust smoke was building up inside the chamber until it was freed by accelerating from a stop position), but as stated before it's ok while I'm driving. I replace the PCV valve but that didn't help so I thought maybe I need to change the air filter. Please help someone before the EPA comes after me!!

is it a turbo? on turbo cars thick smoke on accelleration means, frankly.......you'r turbo is f**ked and needs replacing if non turbo maybe you're right maybe it's blocked in the exhaust. try this; start it up and let it sit idling for about 5 mins while watching the tail pipe (with some one in driving seat) after 5 mins or so with it in neutral get them to accellerate (still in neutral) is there was very little (less than normal) fumes coming out of the exhaust whilst idle then there may well be a blockage and if there's a sudden cloud under accelleration it could be blocked. if not then have a specialist look at your catalytic converter it may be too old if that's not the problem check all the exhaust piping when the car's been turned off all night (you don't want to touch a red hot exhaust system) and see if the tubings bented. if you hit the tubing on something and it been flattened then there may be a blockage which could cause excessive back pressure and that could lead to exhaust being forced back into the cylinders at low revs causing un-efficiend burning of fuel but at higher revs the exhaust pressure may blow all fumes out. hope this helps.

you might be burning some oil my old car had a seal leak and i was burning oil and shooting it out the exhaust. it looked like a crop duster flying down the road.

Go to an auto store ang get some rislone it is an oil treatment it sounds to me like sticking oil rings alot of time rislone will fix it by cleaning the gunk off the rings.

when valve seals are bad you usually get
smoke under deceleration the highest vacuum point in an engine, oil get sucked past the seals.

and a compression test will not tell you if your oil rings are bad only compression rings!!
