Question CAI Question

Thinking about getting an Injen CAI, but I have a couple questions.

1) Doesn't something have to be relocated to install the CAI? If so, what, and how big of a pain is it to move.

2) How close will the filter be to the ground? What I'm getting at is how much water would a person have to be driving in to cause a hydrolock?

Sorry if this has been answered before. It's 1:05 am and I did a brief search, but I'm too tired to go through a ton of threads.

I'll try clubrsx tomorrow and if I find something before anyone replies I'll be sure and let you know.

1) The windshield washer bottle has to be relocated. The Injen has a kit to make that install easier, and I believe the DC Sports does also. Not sure of how big of a pain it is but everyone complains about it so....

2) You know where the waffle grills are (where the fog lights go if you bought them)? Right behind that is the filter of the CAI.

You'd have to submerge the filter in water or when you're washing your car, spray the filter with the hose. That'll hydrolock it.

its not that hard to move the washer bottle. look at the instructions on clubrsx.com and you won't have any problem. I have never done anything to my engine before i put mine in and i did it no problem. It might take a little while but its worth it.

Just get the Injen though, it makes it easier with the relocator kit. I believe the DC offers the same....

Well, the thought of a hydrolock has scared me.

If I wasn't forced to drive my car to and from school 5 days a week in parking lots that have some serious flooding issues, I'd go with a CAI no problem.

Anyway, I'm considering the Injen SRI, and was wondering if anyone had any input. I think mmont0 has the AEM SRI, but I could be wrong.

I have the AEM SRI. Poor low-end performance, but good mid-high end. Sounds good, too. You can definitely hear it coming- sounds like a jet engine. Takes about 10-15 minutes to install. Thinking about getting a CAI for summer, though- it kills me on really hot days- especially with the AC on...

It actually robs a bit of my low end anyway. So when it's really hot outside, plus heat soak from the engine, plus accessories robbing more power, the low end sucks. Once you get going though (out of first), you're fine. In average/cool weather I love it.

I guess it's a matter of preference and expectation. No intake can be superior throughout the entire powerband. You either choose the CAI for better low-mid rpm performance or the SRI for better mid-high end performance gains. I love the SRI 8-9 months out of the year here in New England, but would love a CAI for summer. Maybe a removable cold air extension...?

Anyway, either intake is fairly easy to install, even with the relocator kit on the CAI, so no worries there. You won't regret it, whichever you choose. Just make some closet space for that enormous stock air box- wait until you see how empty the bay looks when that thing is out.

The SRI is easy to install and half the price of a CAI. It should take you no longer than an hour if this is your first time installing one. Just follow the directions that come with the unit and you should be OK.

As far as the CAI, I've read that you need to replace the wiper bottle and that it requires that you take off the front bumper in order to do so. I wasn't willing to go through all that trouble and have to worry about hydrolocking. The SRI sits on the top part of the engine bay, so there's virtually no possibility of hydrolock unless you're in 4 ft. of water!
