my problem is my car dosen't go back down to idle until i'm at a complete stop and if i'm not at a complete stop it stays at 1800 rpms and then the rpms don't drop until i'm in a new gear when i'm shifting teh rpms don't change until i'm in gear, the rpms stay stable instead of droppin down to idle and then go back up when i go into a new gear i drive a 1995 saturan wit 110,00 miles

problem - bad driving habits.

there are two idles, a base idle and a rolling idle(at least thats what i call them). the rolling idle will be a little higher then the base idle. 800 is perfict for a base idle. the higher rolling idle is designed to protect the drivetrain when shifting. the PCM learns how well you shift and sets the rolling idle as it sees fit. for example, my pcm "trusts" my skilled driving and sets the rolling idle around 1000-1200RPM, but my PCM didn't "trust" my exgirlfriend and her total lack of driving skills, and set the rolling idle 2500-3000RPM.

this is mainly caused by slipping the clutch or riding the clutch pedal(stop doing it!)

ok maybe it wasn't you, you said you bought it from a friend right? maybe the computer is still used to him driving. you can reset the computer's memory by pulling the PCM B fuse in the UHJB with the key off. bewarned this will erase the idle, spark timing and fuel maps, it will take anywhere from a hour to a day or two to relearn everything.
