280ZX MOTOR SWAP WITH A RB26DETT and RB25DET TRANS

Had anyone done a MOTOR and TRANS swap for the 1981 280ZX 2 seater turbo. I have one my dad gave me hardly driven bought brand new off the dealer back in 81. I was wondering if anyone knows how much the motor and trans cost. Again im looking for a RB26DETT from a R33 GT-R and a RB25DET trans from a R33 GTS- T. A man told me 7500 for trans and motor not including installation. I was planning to do the installation at my uncles shop. What else would I need to complete this MOTOR and TRANS swap. Can anyone give me some links to a site taht sell the parts. Thanks I'd appreciate it if anyone can help.

Re: 280ZX MOTOR SWAP WITH A RB26DETT and RB25DET TRANS

it will cost about 5-7 grand for motor and tranny and probally another 1000 for uncut harness, and im sure a thousnad or so for worn out parts and custom parts. Like motor mounts and things like this. and youll probally want to put some better rims and tires and suspension to handle the rb. it will cost you over 10 grand roughly to do the swap the correct way. Assuming you do all the labor yourself..ohh and dont forget about custom exhaust and rear end work, and other things like this it will probally not be worth it(IMHO).

i agree...your gonna need to customize just about everything you can think of. not only will you need the motor & trans...but you will also need intercoolers and all necessary piping, ecu, whole rear end, radiator. and thats if you can get all that to fit in there well enough. in other words i would make do with what you got. im sure there are upgrades for your car eventhough im not too familiar with it.

yeah i got some TOKICOS on the way and KONIG IMAGINE 17x7

my uncles mechanic shop can do the piping as for intercooler im not sure what kind to get and motor mounts I dont know either. I looked at mckinleysports they said 7500 with motor and trans not including swap. I think it mention all neccessary parts to do swap included. So im kinda sketchy on this. Not really sure what to do. Yeah does anyone know what kind of MOTOR MOUNTS TO USE. Exahust my dad is gonna make it a very short one from the motor down to the driver side and itz coming out the side behind the front left wheel. Does anyone think thats a dumb idea for my exhaust if i do this swap

i dont know if it is dumb but i preferably wouldnt do it. more of a muscle car trend. run it all the way back and get that beautiful skyline sound coming from your rear-end.

Re: 280ZX MOTOR SWAP WITH A RB26DETT and RB25DET TRANS

It shouldn't be that bad of a swap... I mean... RB20's bolt right on (on 240Z's anyway) and mounting of any other RB enegine should not be any different... why not use an RB20?
