buddy just got a 89 accord dx (how to?...)
I got a buddy who just got a 89' Honda accord DX four door with a carb.
He wants to do somehting with the car, what can he do for cheap. I have already explained you really can't do anything to this car cheap, at least from my perception. But it'll be a daily car, so he'll want it in the 14-16 second range if that is possble with low amount of money (like a grand or so). I was think of just dropping the prelude si motor in and call it a day. oh, that's right I'm going to be doing the work for him. I don't do alot of "honda work" but hey its good to learn. What would be involved in this? New comp/ecu, motor mounts extra, what? Or should I just through in a used honda motor and do port work? What are your guys ideas? Thanks for any input you all got here. -"the return of blight"- |

Man i just found the damn thing has over 210,000 mi on it and the carb is about to go, and only has a a20a1 motor (2bbl carb, 98hp@5500rpm - 109tq@3500rpm) that thing is slow.
Should I just through an angine in with less miles and a new carb? Or should I take the time to switch to port fuel injection? What is invovled in that and what engine would you recomend? |

89 accord - spend money elsewhere
Hey man,
I do buildups and reconditiong of Hondas and I can tell you right off the bat that unless it is a very valuable car, 210,000 miles is way too many to bother with. Everything else on that car is going to worn out as well (tranny, steering, suspension etc). Your buddy should be glad just to have a reliable car like that. Just my opinion. |
