2003 Tahoe cab filter

Does anyone know where the cab filter is located, and how to go about changing it???? A mechanic at the dealership said to remove the covering under the dash on the passenger side and that it would be right there, but after doing that I don't see anything that would be removable containing a air filter.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:
A customer may inquire about the availability of the passenger compartment air replacement filters.

Recommendation/Instructions:
For the 2003 model year the passenger compartment air filter is no longer available as a factory option. With the redesigned HVAC case, there is no longer a cavity for the filter. The GM parts catalog indicates there is replacement filter available; however there is no provision for it.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

I wish my 02 Hoe didn't have an in cabin filter. It didn't get changed for 3 years. It got all moldy and smelled rotten when the A/C was on. The dealer charged me $56 to change it. Next time, it comes out and stays out. $36 for a filter that you have to pull the glove box out to change every 6000 miles? NOPE!
