Porsche noobie

Hey guys. The first thing I'd like to say is, that for me, when it comes to exotics I have traditionally been more of a Ferrari/Lambo etc. guy, but Porsches (lately) have been baiting me

My question is, what does 996 and 997 mean? I mean, I always hear 911 Turbo (996), why is the 996 put in there? ANY info on this matter would be appreciated, I like to learn

Thanks in advance

Re: Porsche noobie

When you hear numbers like 996, 993 and 997 bandied about (all 911 models) or 951 (944 Turbo) or 986 (Boxter) those are internal designators for specific model types and years. Porschephiles tend to suffer from OCD about the cars anyway, but it allows us to discuss specifics.... as an example both the 964 and 996 are types of 911 models... the 964 however is air cooled while the 996 is liquid cooled. Those are just a couple of differences, but the models are so vastly different that many things don't apply. I hope that helps some. Enjoy the learning.... Unlike the Ferrari/Lambo guys, our cars actually start when we want them to.

Re: Porsche noobie

Bingo!!! Not too hard once you see the evolution. BTW, larger numbers are generally later models.
