okay i did a search on this and didn't come up with ne thing, so. i am wanting to know how strong the d- series are and what they can handle, how much horse and/or boost. i am looking at running a t3 greddy turbo with an intercooler. i am pretty sure that the d- series can handle 8-10lbs of boost but i want to be 100% sure before i go through the trouble.
please do not respond if u don't know about turbos or d-series honda engines, thank you. |

Re: D- series and turbo?
9.5-10lbs without tuning is running on the ragged edge. With an FMU or nice AEM standalone computer your stock guts will be able to handle 9-9.5lbs. I'd recommend boosting 5-6psi for driving to work and stuff, then turn on the controller for ~9psi every now and then.. Just make sure to get that thing on a dyno right after installing the turbo kit as insurance.
Everybody says "oh wow a turbo kit is only ~$1600 for my car!". Then they realize oh shit I need a boost controller, a fuel pump, new injectors, computer/piggyback, few hours of dyno time, etc etc etc.. It never ends. I'll stick to my b16b

Re: D- series and turbo?
yeah i am well aware of the tuning that needs to be done. just wondering about the internals handling it. but i could use some pricing on boost controllers, if u would?

Re: D- series and turbo?
Not cheap, but I'd personally recommend the greddy profec B spec 2. You can set two knobs for low boost and high boost, or just turn the power off and it will run at the turbo's stock 5-6psi. Hit the controller power back on and your car now has your set boost levels. With all those mods you can push around 9.5 psi on the stock guts, no more no matter how tuned it is. I've been side by side multiple boosted Civics and they get boost greedy and pop their engine.

Re: D- series and turbo?
thanks for the info, i don't know how hard boost controllers are to install. sure its not too hard, so really a boost controller isn't nessary but just good to have right? it incase i want to push more boost. witch i prolly won't do with stock internals. if i have enough money i will get the controller.

Re: D- series and turbo?
oh i do have one more question about injectors, how many cc injectors would i need for lets say 5-9lbs of boost? i was thinking like 200-440cc? but again i want to be 100% sure? thanks

Re: D- series and turbo?
come to turbod16 ::waves pocket watch:: or homemadeturno...
when/if you turbo you want to do it right. just go and learn and ask questions. turbod16 is a great place and the dedication is the best srry for the site whoring and 310-440/450cc's are fine for that amount of boost

Re: D- series and turbo?
Definately, check out turbod16.com, it's a great site. I've learned a lot although i'm not a member. I also plan to turbo my D16y8. Just need a job, to start saving lol. I'm going custom though, outta be fun, seeing as i'll learn a lot this being my first car, and first turbo setup.
I'd say around 250-260 to the crank is the limit for stock d-series. |
