A/C pollen filter in 03 Camry
For those of us who have air conditioning pollen filters in the cabin of our cars, now is probably a good time to have a look at it and see if it needs changed. If you don't strictly use the Toyota service then you may be overlooking this important filter. My 03 Camry 4-cyl will be one year old on Sept. 7 and this was the first time I looked at the a/c filter. WHEW !!! NASTY !!! Within one year this thing went from perfectly white to a dark gray, crud-laden piece of automotive history. I couldn't wait to change it so I bought a new one at the Toyota dealer ($29.00 on sale, normally $36.00) and it was really easy to change out. Just open your glove compartment, remove the one philips head screw on the lower right corner, move the arm over to the right, squeeze the sides of the box and drop it down. The filter will be there right in front of you. Just slightly push up and pull it out and replace the nasty one with a new one. I hear Fram is making these in-cabin filters now so I hope to get them a lot cheaper in the future. If I do I'll let all you good people on this forum know.

Re: A/C pollen filter in 03 Camry
At $29 each (ripoff) I would buy a larger filter, cut out the right size & tape edges & install....

Sounds like a great idea.......please let us know where one can buy the larger filter so one can cut to fit.........this would definitely be cheaper.

The Camry uses the Hepa Filter.... You can buy the larger ones at Wal-Mart for around $5 to $6..... An Activated Charcoal filter would be better though...

I again just changed out my cabin filter today on my 03 Camry and, again, REAL NASTY LOOKING! I bought the Toyota OEM filter on sale for $12.95 which is a far cry from that $36 a year ago. I checked around and non-Toyota cabin filters are going for right around $12 now. Just twelve months of normal driving and the filter was really bad. I highly recommend that all owners who have this cabin filter take a look at it and if you haven't changed it in say a year or so, then go ahead and change it...you'll be amazed.

Chand,
The easiest way to find out if you have such a cabin filter is to just simply look in your owners manual index for it and then you'll know for sure. It could be listed as a cabin filter, a pollen filter or an air conditioning filter. If not then fine. If so, then you'll definitely want to change it and it very easy to do. Happy motoring! |
