Off subject

I know this is a cavy forum, but my bro has a 99 ford escort zx2 (gah i hate ford). Anyways, he has a muffler (from ebay) on it and a short ram cold air intake (also from ebay) on it. The only problem is that the intake didn't have a place for his air temp. sensor so he never put it in. A few weeks ago his engin started shooting oil out and it was all over the underside of his hood. He took it to the mechanic (crappy ass mechanic) and he said it was the cam shaft and that he would have to get a brand new one because he couldn't get one off a wrecked car. Supposedly he replaced it and gave the car back to my bro and the check engine light came one (which it wasn't doing that before the mechanic) So my parents took it back and he said "maybe i will have to reorder the part" which tells me he never did it to begin with, then said that it was his intake and exhaust because it is restricting his air flow. I personally think he's full of shit and trying to find an excuse to get out of messing up my bro's car worse than it was, especially since the purpose of the muffler and intake is to increase airflow.

My question is do you think the mechanic is bullshitting us, and would the fact that the air temp. sensor wasn't plugged into the intake cause major problems? thanks.

Hmm...You sure the oil cap was on tight?

Anyway, these guys might be more useful...Clicky!

(Try not to mention your hate for Ford though)

Re: Off subject

I believe teh oil problem was a coincidence and not related to the swaps your bro did. Someone should call the tool police on your mechanic, they should take all his tools and put a big "PARKING ONLY" sticker on his garage. As far as the oil problem, I'm not real good with Fords, but they have a strange PCV system that involves a little plastic box that clogs up and causes pressure to build up in the oil system. Being an overhead cam car, the other possibility is a bad valve cover gasket. The cam is spinning directly under it,and can casue oil to get slung everywhere if it's bad. Good luck and never go back to that mechanic.

Thanks for your advise so far! And trust me I'd never go back to that mechanic. I've heard stories recently that when he does oil changes he takes oil from junked cars and uses it in the car he's changing the oil in.
