Couple RX7 Questions from a future buyer ( this weekend maybe!)

i need answers fast...

1-will a first gen transmission fit into a 86 non-turbo five speed?
( the guy said he it worked, then he changed the clutch, and it didnt work after that...says it wont go in engage, sounds like clutch is rubbing on flywheel....so it may just need built)

2-what size injectors came stock on non turbos....the guy said he put on 500cc injectors, what kind of gain can i expect with this over stock?

3-what kind of potential is there in building a race oriendted street car N/A rotor motor ( ok at least I know what im trying to say....oh well...)

4-i would like about 250 hp on N/A without messing with internals....its only got 3000k on rebuild....is this possible?

well thanks in advance......oh and this is my first post here....maybe ill be frequenting here more often...

Absolutely none. 550s are TOO much fuel for an N/A.

Stock motor? Not much...

1. The first gens (SA22) came with the NA 12A motors. Very few had a 13B motor. Even so, I wouldn't trust his word if he put a SA22 tranny in.

2. Stock is 450cc. You would only need to upgrade if went with a ported motor, thus messing with internals.

3. There is good potential in a NA race motor. You won't see many 2 rotor NA race motors at the dragstrip but then handle very well on the track course. Dragstrip motors are usually 3 rotor Cosmos.

4. Even 250rwhp on a S4 motor will be pretty hard without messing with internals. You'll need AT LEAST a streetport. If you do all the bolt-ons and go carburated, I know you can get around 180rwhp. My friend did.

My suggestion is get a S5 NA motor because they're rated at 160 hp @ the crank (rather than the S4s 140) and mod that motor. I'm sure you can get near 200rwhp.

Kevin

the shifter would enlign (if you use a trany from a 81-85), but you'd need a custom driveshaft to fit it in. i have the tranny that came originaly on your car for sale, i live in montreal. pm if you need further details

like J-Rat and Kevin said, its completely useless to run bigger injectors with a stock fuel setup, maybe you'd need em with a big streetport and completely new tuned maps. but you're a long way from there

expect 200hp with a verry big carb perfectly tuned and a full exhaust.

without messing with internals, its only possible if you use nitrous, a turbo or a supercharger.

sa22 : 79-80
fb3s : 81-85
SA22 trannys dont even fit in a Fb. and theres more than a few that came with a 13b, almost every first gen i see for sale is a gsl-se (wich is the 13b model)

Re: Couple RX7 Questions from a future buyer ( this weekend maybe!)

ok ok ok......thanks to all of you guys.... ok....i realize 250 horses is out of my league.... all i want is enough power to drift and be a balanced car without being crazy.... i know i can drift with a stock motor....but still....its stock....lol

-where can i find a 3 rotor cosmo? how much would one cost? is it really worth it fir what im using it for? i wont be dragging in it.....just..."spirited" driving and a little drifting once i get the suspension done...

-i would like a turbo....but from what i read....i would be better off finding a turboed car.... even tho this is a great deal....oh and NO NITROUS.....i hate that stuff for anything but drag racing....plus i would be using it too much.....( like when getting passed by the cell-phone-talking-SUV-driving-woman thats been riding my ass for 10 miles....)

- so stock it came wioth 450cc injectors? so i guess thats not much different...

- it was mentioned that converting it to carbourated would be a good conversion. the other guy that sauid he had the 1st gen tranny said the first gens have ....i think he siad Holley carbs....not sure..... would this work? and how hard would this conversion be?

Re: Couple RX7 Questions from a future buyer ( this weekend maybe!)

for 250hp on a non-turbo you'll need atleast a large streetport, but you could get it with fuel line mods and bolt ons with a b-port probably

Re: Couple RX7 Questions from a future buyer ( this weekend maybe!)

theoricaly, and if we keep in mind the mazdatrix complete exhaust have shown a 28% hp increasement over stock exhaust, i would assume you can play in the 190-200 range if you remove emission and get the mazdatrix full exhaust.
expect 15-30hp increasement with a weber 45 DCOE or a holley 600 cfm
you MIGHT be able to get near 250 hp. with stock internals. but i realy doubt you can get more than 220hp out of them. i'll beleive it when i'll see the dyno results, no one nearby use the mazdatrix full exhaust

Re: Couple RX7 Questions from a future buyer ( this weekend maybe!)

agreed... your gonna need some kind of porting and thats all there is to it, and if you port you will be able to get even more if you decide you want more power in the future

250RWHP on an NA would require a big bridge port or maybe even a p-port. Then just forget about driving it daily...

You don't need much horsepower to drift, a stock 86-91 N/A (13B w/ 5-speed manual, 160 hp 140 torque) should be able to do it just fine. If you want to go a little faster, get a Turbo II model (turbocharged 13B w/ 5-speed manual, 200 hp 188 torque).

hey kman10587
get your facts straight before throwing them in a thread.
FCs wer 86-92 and the spec you stated is for the s5 models, wich are 89-92.
