problem starting

when you stick the key in the ignition and turn it foward(as if to listen to the radio) all the lights come on just fine and everything is alright but the battery voltage meter is all the way down, and when you try and start the car it turnsover but it won't start. then if you turn it on and off over and over again the voltage meter will eventualy go back up out of nowhere and you can start the car. but the next time that you turn it off you have to go through the entire procedure over again. if you have any idea what the problem might be please let me know. thanks a lot.

Re: problem starting

sounds like burnt contacts in the ignition switch. The on and off cycles probably just contact a slightly different spot each allowing a good connection every now and then.

I bought my Bravada used one week ago and had this problem. I took it to the dealer and it was diagnosed as an ignition switch short requiring that the switch be replaced. It cost me $450.00.

I too am having a similar problem with my 97 Bravada. I have 115k miles on it. It will crank but will not start unless I pour a small amount (less than half a cup) of gas into the carb. Once I do that it starts up and runs fine. I am getting just under 18 mpg with it. I've put in a can of carb/injector cleaner into the gas to see if that will help, but I've not gone through a full tank yet.

Any ideas? thanks.
