I have a 1993 jeep wrangler Y/J. Its the 2.5 4Clyn. I notice a squeak when I start up in the morning but that's not the major problem. After running a little bit and coming to a stop. its very hard to get it to go into first. I also get a shudder coming to a stop (clutch in) if I am in say 2nd. I think the clutch is about had it but want to get an opinion before I start tearing apart. It shifts great 2-5th but you can't get it into first while rolling at all and at a standstill its a back and forth game till it goes. any ideas? thanks

Re: Clutch help! New one?
Sounds like your pressure plate is not disengaging completly. May be a broken lever. Either way you will have to pull the tranny to find out. How is it with the engine off?(going into 1st) Remove your starter and look inside, see if you see any metal shavings.

how many miles are on the clutch/pressure plates??? The shuttering problem sounds like the fly wheel. When you put a new on in you need to get it surfaced by a local machine shop so it will grab clean again. As far as the other part, it could be a combination of things. Does the throwout bearing make any noises/squeak, etc... Your problem could be as simple as adjusting the tension on the clutch itself...
