IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

If someone feels a Mod is being all-around unfair and/or abusing power, the general public should be able to vote that person off of "Moderator" status.

DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POST WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW THE PROPOSED CHANGE CAN BE MADE BETTER. START YOUR OWN IWC THREAD IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA ON HOW TO FURTHER IMPROVE AF AFTER THIS CHANGE PASSES OR FAILS.

Re: IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

I have worked for companies doing technical worked, and when I administered the boards we went on the policy of: The public does not need a reason as to why he/she was banned or as why a thread was closed/deleted/edited. If the admin/moderator feels to give a reply, they may, but that is their option.

I can understand where you're coming from. But the public doesnt always know why we do things, but that doesnt mean we dont have a good explination.

Re: IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

its not that we always want to know why we were banned or had our threads locked. Its we want to be able to do something about a mod who is abusing his privlages. I have seen a few cases of mods using their power to lock threads or ban people because of something they didnt like. not that the person broke the rules. while i agree with the mods alot of the time (having seen spammers be blocked and some threads that have gotten way out of hand be closed) i still feel that sometimes the mods have just abusied their power. locking a thread to stop a flame war is one thing. locking a thread because the person has a differnt point of view then the mod is another.

Re: IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

Actually, it's Igor's call, or Jacob's(aves911) as to who is made a moderator/ loses moderator status, not the forum members. We are chosen based on what the admins have witnessed, which means we have been picked as moderators for a reason. We know how to do our jobs, and we don't need anyone telling us that we're doing it wrong, when they themselves have no clue as to what we deal with. If you don't like how we do things, tough. We make the calls that we feel we must, and really don't have to explain it to those who are not involved in whatever incident, as to our reasoning for a certain decision. End of story.

Re: IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

It may seem that a mod has abused their power, but behind closed doors, there is much discussion about what or who the problem is, and possible solutions. Often, that solution is banning.

Besides, how come I never read about how great a mod is, only mention of the ones "abusing there power". We have some great mods on our team, and I think some gratitude is necessary. Rather than bitch and moan about a few instances, look to all the problems, spam, and all around bullshit you could be floating in if it werent for the mods.

If I do remember correctly, and correct me if I'm wrong... That last big batch of mods Igor choose, he asked the other mods if they agreed with his choices and I remember the other mods telling Igor who they thought he should make mods. And they made a little tally...

That is true. They do ask for our input, but they do make the final decision, not us.

Re: IWC - Regulars have voice to de-mod Mod's

Funny how these types of threads always attract the same faces (even banned ones!). AF's core business is supposed to be automobiles, not silly board politics, so why does the trouble always start in the off topic areas?

Mods are accountable for their actions to Igor (and now Jacob), every move we make is documeted and requires justification if demanded. Be assured, if any mods really were "being all-around unfair and/or abusing power" as some of the above rank and file would like to imagine, the noose would be tightened.

I agree...
Ace-your kool, always make good/valid points.
Naki-all around nice guy.
J-Swigz-no complaints
Tokisn-Funny guy, but seemed to get a little outta control* for a really short period there. Still funny.
Rally-sorry man, haven't read your posts, but that just leaves me more open to liking you.
TwoSpirits-Kool guy, knows when to be serious and when to be funny. ALWAYS seems justified...

There's lots more I can't think of at the moment....but there are a couple/few that I just don't agree with (see as abusive/hypocritical*) and know for a fact that quite a few other AF'ers don't either. That's the reason for this poll. Maybe Igor and Jacob don't see those threads where hypocracy is demonstrated*, or power abuse is shown*, maybe they do, but we don't know either way, hence the poll. Thanks for your time guys, whatever your decision(s) may be.

can I ask how many of the members you claim to represent? At last count we had over 225,000 members.Thousands of them have moved on,deciding that AF is not for them.Fair enough. You can't please all the people all the time. But this is a WELL RUN forum, and it's not the loudest members that get things all their own way.In fact,if they get too loud, they are weeded out- in the best interests of the wider community. If you are unhappy with that, sorry, but it's your problem, not ours. The moderating team moderates itself, under guidelines laid down by the site owner. This board is not 'Survivor'.You don't get a vote.
