brahma the best?

xxx vs brahma

i know the xxx has barely more spl but does it have the same sq or worse. also where can you buy the xxx? ive never seen prices for it. is it the same as brahma ($440)? i really like the look of the xxx, but if the brahma is cheaper and better sq, then brahma it is.

Re: brahma the best?

They're pretty much the same, flip a coin and go with it. I chose the brahma because of the customer service mainly.

You can order the xxx straight from RE, there should be a phone number on their site, and I'm pretty sure it's very very similar in price to the brahma. $399 + shipping for the 15 if I remember correctly, while the $440 brahma price includes shipping, so like I said just flip a coin.

Re: brahma the best?

I got about 300 for my XXX, but mine is used... It is a beautiful sub... One thing I love about RE's customer service is even with having bought from someone else who is not an authorized dealer, RE still will help me, and will send me stuff for free... I needed to replace some set screws and little meanial things on my old HC before I got rid of it... One of the guys on SI.net got his sub reconed for free and had it done in a smaller cone since he wanted a 15 instead of a 18. Of course you have to pay to get stuff reconed etc unless it is on factory warranty or if you want it to have a smaller cone, but there was a special problem that occured during the time... I love RE's service and plan to stay RE for subs for as long as possible. I would only go Elemental Designs if I had to switch... and I would be waiting for their new lines to be revealed... I am thinking there might be a pimp 8" coming out.

Re: brahma the best?

I have a 15", I will be running a nine.1, but right now I am running it off my sub out on my reciever... works pretty well. I like RE's customer service, others don't. It is my opinion on their service.

Re: brahma the best?

You ask what I am using I answered. No one can really answere the question on the limits yet cause no one has heard it or tested it. Although, Euphorism thinks that it will run about 1500watts at 14.4v. I might even run it at 4 ohm, since like 600 or so I forgot what it is, should be plenty for my sub.

yea, most products lie and rate power higher then it really is. knowing ed i think they actually under-rate their products.

i was just wondering cuz i heard that to push an xxx to its limits, you need close to 1600 watts, as for the brahma, depending on the box, you only need like a 1000 watts. i could be wrong though, thats why i ask

nope you're pretty much dead on, there's a power chart on www.adireaudio.com that lists the amount of power that it will take to reach full excursion in different box sizes for the brahma and for the most part it's around 1000 or less, unless you get into the very small boxes.

Re: brahma the best?

from what I've heard, yes you're going to be using a whole lot of that power to move a xxx well. It's rated at a higher efficiency than the brahma, but they're rated differently and the brahma is actually quite a bit more efficient than the xxx from what I've heard from people who have owned both.

Also, I was looking in your sig, and stay away from fatmat. Hopefully you don't have it yet, but it's really an inferior product. If it's not too late, you might want to switch your plans to secondskin, rammat, b-quiet, brownbread, or any of the other alternatives. Fatmat has very slow shipping, it's not heavy so it doesn't deaden all that well, and after a couple months it starts to fall off. It's also tar based so it gums up your knife pretty badly.

yea, that is why im leaning towards a brahma. do you know what the "perfect" size box would be for a brahma. im willing to take up the whole trunk. most times a ported box is better but im not sure for this.

also, i dont have any of those yet. im not that educated about deadening mats. ive heard there mostly all the same. i just picked fatmat because you can get a 100ft roll cheap. you sound like youve used it before? i dont want to spend a lot if you know what i mean.

Re: brahma the best?

"perfect" depends on your application, I'll be building a 2.5cf box for mine, it's what they recommend for sound quality setups. I don't want to go ported, because anechoically it has a flatter response, but once you stick it in a car the low end tends to overpower the upper bass. With a sealed box on the other hand, you tend to get a ~12dB/oct drop in response after the F3, and when you stick it in a car you get a ~12dB/oct cabin gain starting at about the same frequency, and you end up with a flatter in-car response normally.

As for fatmat, yes I have the 100sqft pack in my car, and if my recommending something else says anything, it's that I've learned from my mistakes.
