No, it's not crankwalk!
http://members.rogers.com/shabster2/talon/crankwalk.wav
Here is a recording I just found of what crankwalk apparently sounds like. Thought it might be helpful for someone discerning between CW and lifter tick! Kevin or other(s) please interject if you have had different experiences or sounds with engines dying of CW.

Re: No, it's not crankwalk!
from the research i have done and the knowledge i have gained about CW is that there is no sound to it... and i have found a couple people calling it the "Silent Killer" cause you really dont know you have it until it is to far gone to save! unless you are constantly checking your main bearings...

Re: No, it's not crankwalk!
when i had CW it didn't sound like that...just before my engine blew, i had a real loud ticking noise which was the trigger plate rubbing against the crank sensor.

Re: No, it's not crankwalk!
That sound is presumably the crank sensor commiting suicide. I cant really remember what mine sounded like, but I did hear it for the last day or two it ran. You need some serious thrust play to wreck the sensor, .20 perhaps. Service limit is .009-.010

Re: No, it's not crankwalk!
then what is crankwalk?? from my experiences with crankwalk and many other people agreeing with me, mitsubishi machined the cranks just a hair out of spec. so in turn, the crank wears out the center thrust bearing causing lots of movement in the crankshaft (lots of banging around which equals knocking) and after so much play it takes out the crank sensor and that's why the car suddenly shuts off. like joemathews said, "if metal is hitting metal, there will be a sound." correct me if i'm wrong but i'm sure there's alot of people that will agree with me.
