Unhappy fan noise

i have a 94 accord lx

sometimes when i go idle...my fan makes a loud noise...like a big vibrating/clicking sound...

this only happens when i press the brakes on a light when i'm on D

this sound goes away..when i switch to N or stop

if i put it back to D (4,3,2 all of them) the noise will come out

no sound when i'm driving or when car in motion

any ideas why this happens ????

thank you

Re: fan noise

Are you sure it's the fan? Set the parking brake, put it in "D" and listen under the hood. There's no (probable) reason the fan behavior would change between Park and Drive.

Re: fan noise

well...at first..i thought it was the muffler..thats making the rattling sound...i went to a mechanic to c if its my muffler...but they cna't find anything nuthing wrong w/ it...

the reason i think its the fan is that ...sometimes ..when the sounds stops (don't know why..it go away...) you can hear that its the fan...its like a loud noise that the fan made before it goes off..

i have no idea why sometimes the noise goes away by itself.

but its very ignoring when your driving n stop on a light then the loud noise starts ...then everyone stares are you..

parking breaks ... do you mean the hand breaks?

i will try to find someone to press on the breaks when i get that sound again...n check the hood.

thank you for your reply

Re: fan noise

Parking brake = hand brake = emergency brake.

Re: fan noise

after days of trying to get the sound back unsuccessfully... finally..on sunday nite...it came back after a long drive home...

so i pull my handbreak and left it on "D4".... open up the hood...
the fan on the passengers side...is making some clicking sound...

i'm sure its the fan because when it turns on to cool the engine..the sound comes on...n it will stop a little while...then turn on again....to cool hte engine...n thats when the sound comes back again...

i'm not sure why theres this clicking sound...and i don't c anything thats touching it...it only makes this sound when the fan goes full speed or when its spinning at maximum speed...you can hear that its spinnin very fast by the sound of hte motor ... but the thing is it doesnt' always produce the sound...

any idea or input would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Re: fan noise

Just a long shot --- some time ago, I had the fan assembly break at the hub. The motor would turn, but make clattering noise beacuse it was hitting the broken fan. Sometimes I would just hear the "fan" noise, which was really just the motor turning, but not touching anything. Could that be your problem? (Obviously, don't poke your finders in there to check it without waiting for the motor to be stone cold, or at least unplug the fan)
