R33 problem

Hey all. I was driving down the road and the fan that blows the air/AC inside the car died. It's not the A/C compressor, it still kicks on. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this kind of thing. I just wanted to know: Where is the fan? Is it hard to get to it to fix? Do I have to replace the fan or are there relays? What might be the problem? A few days before it went out, I would hear a donk donk donk sound from under the dash for about 5 seconds after I started my car. Now there is no sound anymore so I'm guessing it was the fan. HELP, I can't blow air in my car and it's freakin HOT outside!!!!!

Re: R33 problem

The "donk donk" sound is a good indication the fan has either fallen off its spindal, or run some bearings.

But, start by checking all the fuses and relays in the fuse box(s).
If thier all fine, then you will have to simply get down and dirty and start looking under the dash for the fan.

Well It turned out to NOT be my fan. I swapped them out and it didn't make a difference. Someone tells me that it is probably the relay switch on top of my evaporator. Anyone got suggestions?

Re: R33 problem

Unlikely to be the receiver drier switch if the fan works when A/C is off.

The fan is common for having the fan speed selector switch burn out the resistors inside which results in no electricity at all getting to the fan motor.

Re: R33 problem

Is it in the actual fan or a seperate thing somewhere behind glovebox. I have ripped the fan out twice and put 12v to it and it works. What the?

Re: R33 problem

Seperate thing behind glove box. From memory, it is held in place by one or two small screws. It is mounted between the fan and the vents somewhere

Re: R33 problem

Thanks dude, i found the problem. It was the fan speed controller, behind the glovebox, held by two screws. It's an aluminium block with fins and electrical socket on the end. I opened it and found a copper contact had come away from a solder point. I re-soldered it and it works perfect again!!!

Thanks all for your assistance!!!
