Automatic Transmision

I Have a 2002 Protege 5. The problem i'm having is when i come to a complete stop, the engine rpm falls and then the over drive light in the dash flashes on and off. If you try to take off the tranny doesnt pull, its like its stuck in 2 or 3 gear. I would like any help please.

Re: Automatic Transmision

Our 1999 Protégé does a similar thing - sometimes the overdrive light comes on and it won't shift from 1st or it shifts rough. You can turn it off, then turn it back on and the overdrive light goes off and it runs fine. Can you tell me what might cause this?

I had the same exact thing happen to me tc99, when I had my 00 Protege. I took it into the Mazda dealership where I bought it, and they replaced the whole transmission under warranty. My advice is just to take it in to a Mazda dealership - there is really no use in trying to repair it yourself.
