93 LX 1.9L - Rough start and initial drive

Can anyone help me out with my 93 Escort (125,000 miles) LX 1.9L wagon? Here is the current situation: A few weeks ago my escort started to act funny: On cold and wet/humid days the car was hard to start and would idle rough (almost like it was not firing on all cylinders) for 5 to 10 minutes then, all of a sudden the car would run normally.

I replaced the plugs and wires which seemed to help for about a week but now it has started to do the same thing again. When the car is cold its hard to start and idles rough until its warmed up, then it runs normally.

The guy at the parts store said it was probably a stuck EGR valve or a vacume leak, so I purchased a new EGR gasget and a can of carb cleaner to check the vac system.

For starters I could not find the EGR valve I looked all over but couldnt find anything that looks like what is in the Chilton manual. So if anyone could help me locate the EGR valve that would be great (any info is useful). I have not had a chance to use the carb cleaner to check for a vac leak so I dont know if thats the problem.

I guess my questions are as follows:

1)Where is the EGR valve, and does it sound like this is the real problem?
2)Could it be something else? such as the fuel filter or something?

Any help or information would be great

well hmm I dont know if this is alot of help.
And I'm not trying to scaring you by saying this

Mine did this ever since I bought it? (April '04)
And my mechanic said it was due to whoever had the car before me screwed around with it. And the head was lose and my head gasket went

I got my heads all fixed and now it don't act funny when it is humid.

I don;t know if htis will be much of a help because theres many reasons why my mechanic said the 1.9s do this. So dont be alarmed
