sputtering

Hey guys!!!
Server here.
I got a problem. My 525i 94 sputters, makes loud noises (and "farts") as if the muffler were blown but after checking it out, all was fine (the muffler, that is). It also shivers while idling. I changed the plugs to no avail. When accelarating, I can actually feel the popping noises on the trottle. What could this be? I even changed the coil heads but nothing gives!!
Any ideas?
Suggestions of any type are highy welcome!!!

Thanks
Server

Re: sputtering

a] is the 'check engine' lamp on?
b] check all the engine air/breater hoses
c] were the coil boots oil soaked?
d] IF it's actually mis-firing [dead cylinder] @ idle, pinpoint the cylinder by [quickly and one at a time] disconnecting and reconnecting the primary plug connector on each coil. BE SURE of what your unplugging with it running and do it quickly before the idle valve reacts. also let the idle stablize between each coil [power balance] test.

Re: sputtering

hey there jeff,
thanks for the tip...
I discovered it was the 6th cylinder that was dead...
this of course could be due to a couple of reasons -
I am now going to check wether it's the coils, boots etc.
But if anything, you have really helped me so thanks one more man...
peace and god speed
