Centre Console Removal

Some time ago I had a trunk CD changer fitted. Following that for a long time I had heating and cooling air problems. Finally I removed the panels below the dash and discovered that the guy who had installed the trunk changer had obviously had both the panels out AND the centre console. It looks as if the didn't realise that he had to put the heating/cooling ducting all back in place before reinstalling the console so he had just crammed all the bits back up under the dash any old how and reinstalled the panels. By the time I had discovered this it was far to late to go back there. I have decided to remove the console myself and put everthing back as it should be.

Has anyone any idea of how to remove the console? I can only see one screw down inside the centre box, but removing that doesn't seem to free anything.

Are you talking about the console where the shifter is?

Are you talking about the console where the shifter is? If so you need to take off the lid to the storage compartment door between the front seats and then remove the 4 screws you see on the top of the compartment. After that you simply pull slowly and carefully up on that part and work your way towards the dash and you will see that only to top of the console lifts out and it just snaps in. Let me know if you need more help or if I did not word it correctly. Someone on one of these forums helped me do the same thing. Try this one too: http://www.regalgs.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=24

Hi Titan4,

Thanks for the reply. I really do appreciate it. Yes I was referring to the console where the shifter is. I am away from home at the moment, but when I get back I'll give that procedure a try. It would be really good to be able to get all the heater ducting back in place, especially with winter coming on. I shall get back to you after I have completed the job and let you know how it went. Thanks again,

Chris.

Re: Centre Console Removal

I forgot to mention that you will have to remove the shifter knob. On the forward side of the shifter knob you will see a U-shaped clip (like a spring clip) that you can pull out with a pair of pliers. You may need a small screwdriver to pry it out a little at first though. Once that is out the knob slides right off.
I replaced the piece you are talking about. In the next day or so I will take a picture of my old one and post it for you. You will get a better idea of what you are up against.

Oh yeah - once you start prying it up you will need to remove the light bulb assemblies from under the shifter plate. They are bayonnet type and just twist out of their holders.
