HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
For the mods: I HAVE read all previous threads on this topic by using the search bar, appreciated what I saw there, but I just want to know this:
I have everything stock on my 97 GS-T except for a vented Greddy Type-s (running 10-12 psi). It makes that nice ricey psshhhttt sound that gets louder as I soften it. My question is: is the HKS SSQV BOV louder than the Greddy? |

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
nope... i have the SSQV on my RST and the Type S on my GST, the Type S is louder whether its vented or not! on my RST i have the SSQV vented and if i decide to recirculate the Type S on the GST at 20psi it seems about the same volume as the vented SSQV... pitch and tone can all be changed by tightening/loosening the spring, just dont tighten it to much or it allow all the pressure out causing you to get a lot of back pressure on the turbo, which in return can blow the turbo if done for too long!

I don't agree. I have heard both of them vented and the HKS wins hands down. Recirculation is a different issue though, Greddy wins that department. The HKS sounds like a beating of a seal to death. |

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
I want a really loud sound... I would have gone with Turbo-XS, but too many reviews state that it leaks very easily. The Greddy is superb, but I was just wondering if the HKS would be a louder psshhttt....so I can scare that chick who's joggin every morning around my neighborhood. haha. (oh, and the honda ppl, ofcourse)

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
jake, how tite would you consider too tite for the type-s. right now mine is set at about 3, or 3 1/2 rotations down from fully tite. would you consider that too tite?.. it still makes that high pitch sound just not as loud as 4, or 4 1/2 rotations down from fully tite. if i were to turn it just 1/4 titer, the high pitch disappears. i like my BOV little titer cause it pulls harder. again, don't wanna risk blowing the baby up.

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
if you are really concerned about getting different sounds from your bov go with the hks. it has different "ends" you can put in it to make different sounds. but i dont know if thats similiar to the screw on the greddy because ive never tried either. does the hks have a screw to adjust noise levels. here are those inserts for the hks. http://www.hopupracing.com/hksssqvinserts.html

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
it's the titness of the valve opening. softer, easier the air vents out, while harder, harder the air vents out.

Re: HKS SSQV BOV vs GReddy (sound levels)
why do you want it to be harder to vent out or softer. im guessing its cuz if you run more boost you want it harder and if your running less you want it softer?
