Unhappy Leaking Transfer Case Oil

I have some oil leaking from the left front transfer case main shaft seal area and was wondering if this is common seal wearing problem, or something larger like worn bearings? This 93' S-10 Blazer has many miles (aprox. 170K), and I doubt they have ever been replaced. Any suggestions/recommendations about doing the work myself with a bearing kit or possibly a re-build kit from drivetrain.com ??

Re: Leaking Transfer Case Oil

Just to clarify, are you talking about the transfer case, or the front differential?

Re: Leaking Transfer Case Oil

i think he means the part of the transfer case that goes to the front differential. I bet you just need new seals.

Exclamation Re: Leaking Transfer Case Oil

Just wanted to update that the both are leaking, but the transfer case is not serious yet just wet. The fwd axle though is pooling oil and needs immediate attention. I'm going to attempt the work myself even though I have never removed an axle before. I have been looking for resources on the internet for advice concerning the procedure and required tools. So far I have learned that I need a "pickle fork" steering joint remover and maybe a seal remover and inserter tool. The first tool is common, but I'm not sure where to find the seal insertion and removal tools besides paying dearly at the dealer. Also, does anyone know what size socket I need to remove the outer hub/bearing nut ...is it 36mm? Any suggestions?
