Question Name that sqeak!

I have a little sqeak, kind of a chirp while driving. I don't hear anything when I jump up and down on the bumpers. Could this be the chassis? Are there lube points for the chassis? My initial thought was the shocks, but like I said, I can't get them to sqeak.

Re: Name that sqeak!

if it's under the hood, check anything with a pulley. Most important, the water pump

Thanks for the reply. It's something to do with the suspension for sure and seems to be coming from the rear. It doesn't change w/ engine speed, never does it while not rolling, and usually accompanies a bump in the road.

Re: Name that sqeak!

rubber bushings in the tierods, or stabilizer bars. mine was equipted with Tierods because it was wrecked before I got it, unfortunatly. But I had to replace it due to a minor accident, (better left unexplained) and the Junk yard couldn't get the replacement off the parts car because they were using heat around a rubber bushing in the tierod. after that my car always squeeked from that part of the car, swo check it to see if it is bad...

I was thinking a bushing too. I search for replacement parts, but I'm not sure what the suspension parts are even called. I don't have a repair manual, and I don't really want to buy one since I'm going to be selling this car in the next few months.

1. Tie Rod
2. Control Arm
3. Stabilizer

Am I right here?

Re: Name that sqeak!

Just thought bout it, chirp while driving.... shocks don't squeek...
WHEEL BEARINGS!!!!!
it won't squeek when you jump on it, but when it first starts to go, it chirps, then it gets to a wha, then it sounds like your hitting bumps in the road when your not...
That's the problem...

So if I jack up my car and try and move the wheel back and forth to check for play, that should tell me if the bearings are bad. Is that right?

Was I right on my picture and the suspension parts?

Re: Name that sqeak!

when i replaced the struts and springs on my escort ended up getten a chirp while driving or ridding over rough road... but like 92escrtpmp said.. could be the bearings goin..

As far as checken for play is concerned if you get any movement(back and forth) then your bearings are shot, if youd ont get nothin from that try rotatin the wheel if it feels rough or there noise bearings are likely shot
