carburator too small?

well the camaro engine that we had bored over is all back together and has had 1100 miles put on it. this engine was bored 30 over, was a 305.
the old engine had a eldlebrock 750 cfm carbarator on it. we put it back on the 309 when we put it back in the trans am. but the car was running way too rich. we couldnt adjust the 750 to keep the car from flooding out. so my brother got a good used Holly 600 cfm for $15. it had been setting a while he did rebuild it with a holly trick kit. we put it on the car and had it in tune. no rich smell and no smoke, but the car is starving for gas, is the carb too small for the 309? i was thinking that a 305 needed a 650 cfm anyway, what do you guys think?

Re: carburator too small?

i think u could go a lil bigger, but then again u get what u pay for...so a $15 carb something is bound to be wrong with it...just go buy a new 600cfm and if it still acts up just return it, u got nothing to lose..then u will know to go bigger.

..just my opinon
